    Maybe let them boost all of STR/DEX/CON? Or alternatively, make them show up earlier before you're likely to have found a competitor; it could possibly be interesting having an incentive to wear aggravating gear early on. Or as a third option, weaken Cambeleg and Fingolfin.

    I agree they're generally not worth bothering with currently.

      Aggravate isn't aggravate anymore. It just reduces your stealth, instead of causing THE WHOLE DUNGEON FLOOR wanting to kill you.

        @Sky--
        Yeah, it's not nearly as bad as it used to be. It went from radius 20 to radius 10 (or 8?), which means only about a quarter the area is affected now.

          Played at lunch and on break today at work. just updated the Ladder with the current version.

          2 Deep Decent scrolls have me down into the 90's where I am usually being fairly cautious with my movements. I think I've used ~8 ?DD this game i usually squelched them as "to scary" but I'm learning the joys of diving faster, especially with lucky finds of a decent number of rods of TO, found one before my first WAND of TO!

          Then I get one of those single screen sized Pacman levels with a lousy 4-4 level feeling. Might as well clear it for the safe xp i think to myself... I don't have any problems with the monsters and go gather all the loot. What are these 2 unknown rods. Zap. 2 Rods of Healing 1 charging!!!! I finally find the not 1 but 2 Rods of Healing on a 4-4 Pacman level?!?! Perfect for a warrior going into the end game! RNGesus seems to be liking ThogII a lot this game.

            If you're going to be playing on more than one machine, check out http://angband.live/ - the game takes place on the server, so you can go home and log in and pick back up where you left off.

              Google file stream handles syncing the save files just fine :-)

                Gwarl-the lag just proves fatal for me, every time (West Coast,
                USA.) It's a great idea, but it needs a few satellite nodes spread worldwide.

                  Updated my ladder dump again.

                  I'm having a lot of fun right now at CL50, 3 elemental immunities , maxed internal stats, and over 1000HP. I need to figure out how to swap things around for the final boss fights but for right now this is great as I keep moving down collecting consumables on my way to DL99.

                  The more I play 4.1 the more I'm liking Rune ID. After the first bit of the dungeon where i was having to ID Runes by use, but that was usually fairly simple, I was usually finding enough ?ID to understand the oddball Runes i ran across. And since you already know what all the powers are for something once you step on it, the usual chore of sorting out all the loot after a big fight or in a vault is MUCH less tedious, especially for my HT Fighter who would normally be having a horrid time with it from my experience in earlier versions!

                    Well I will admit to one save scum on DL 99 when i was playing on break at work and got distracted and killed myself stupidly (typoed the wrong rod) before even facing Sauron.

                    Once I actually got the final battles started I had plenty of consumables and TO rods so just beat on them until dead, healing and TOing as needed and occasionally ?MassBannising if the summons got to bad.

                    This is my first winner in about 25 years of playing Moria/Angband :-)

                    I tended to get bored with a character before finishing up a game in the past. I think a few things really helped me make it through this time (besides some lucky gear drops)

                    1) Rods of Treasure Detection helping me feel OK with diving faster without "missing loot" i could clear actual loot fairly fast then just go down without looking through every passage.
                    2) The change in level feelings, preserve mode on by default, no selling means i wasn't checking every corner for items to sell and making sure I didn't miss an artifact.
                    3) Rune ID was a BIG win in lowering the tedium of the ID game in mid/late game, especially combined with the improved Squelch system of the newer versions. The combo let me define what I thought was junk for this character and not even notice the stuff I didn't care about.

                      @tprice--
                      I agree about Rune ID. I suspect the folks who don't like it are playing with selling enabled, and are spending more time at shallow depth where use-ID is somewhat more difficult.

                      Congrats!
