    Feature request - toggle ESP

Looking for a way to toggle on/off telepathy.
Of course, this means without having to remove gear, and without using a turn.

This is useful for any Clairvoyance-enabled character, specifically rogues. Without it, mobs detected by ESP will cover a tile they are on, obscuring any potential loot they are standing on.

As you are already aware of both mobs and items, you should be able to see either easily.

It's not really ESP that you want to toggle. You actually want a key to turn off rendering of NPCs. And it's not only useful for loot. Can't find the stairs? Want to know if that ghost will get hit by an AoE spell? Need to know where the traps are? These things can all be determined with the current command set, but it's tedious. A mode to turn off mob rendering, maybe embedded within the 'L'ook command interface, would be useful.

All NPCs are monsters currently, of course.

Maybe what could be done is turn on an overlay mode, where the game world renders in grayscale, except for chosen symbols, which are shown in a high-contrast color and given a higher render priority so they always render "on top". You could choose a specific symbol like ">", or a broad category of symbols like "{}[]/|\=-" (which would be named "items" and given its own selector, of course).

It sounds neat, but I'm not sure I would use such a mode, personally.

Sounds like overkill to me. When the dungeon is generated, there are no stacks. I personally am not interested in a command that can tell me if there is, e.g., a ring on any stacks. And items can't fall on traps or stairs, so if mob rendering is toggled off, traps and stairs and all objects are visible. That's all that I'd use, and the interface is simple. The more keystrokes it requires, the less likely anybody else is to use it. Consider the current interface through the (lowercase) 'l'ook command, where (this is probably a bug, come to think of it), you have to hit space sometime half a dozen or more times before you can see what an NPC is standing on.

I've also often wished I could toggle ESP, just momentarily to conveniently see what objects monsters were standing on, without the pain of the individual "look" command and then doubling trying to get it to show what was underneath. I'll sometimes "toggle" by removing the ring/amulet/helm/cloak that is giving ESP, but this costs two turns (off and then back on), is a pain when the pack is full so the ESP item drops on the ground, in the case of a ring, means losing the Con bonus hps which have to be regained by healing or resting or over time. A quick toggle, similar to ignore/unignore would be great.

Well, we can do you blood and love without the rhetoric, and we can do you blood and rhetoric without the love, and we can do you all three concurrent or consecutive. But we can't give you love and rhetoric without the blood. Blood is compulsory. They're all blood, you see.”

This sounds like the way to do it, assuming it's getting done...
