Haha, still on 4.0.5. So in the end this has been a little advertisement for taking the plunge on 4.1.

Since my midgame rogue just impulsively wielded a still-cursed Calris (I thought it wasn't sticky-cursed), well... we'll see.
So you ride yourselves over the fields and you make all your animal deals and your wise men don't know how it feels to be thick as a brick.

Speaking of curses - I just put on Wormtongue's boots knowing they were cursed for all the bonuses and figures I'd almost immediately find better boots. I've hit it with two Enchant Armors AND an *Enchant Armor* scroll and they are still cursed - that's just RNG right?

I think you need to use remove curse now. Enchanting no longer works. It's available in the store, and sticky curse is pretty weak.

In 4.0.5? I haven't seen a "Remove Curse" scroll in the store or dungeon that I can tell.

My bad. It's *enchant* or nothing. If it gets too high to enchant I suppose you can look for a disenchanter mold/eye and take off everything else.

Ugh...sounds like I'm sort of screwed.

@Penguin--remove curse scrolls do turn up, in 4.0.5, I believe.

Enchantment is the only way to remove curses in 4.0.5, but every attempt at enchantment has a 3 in 8 chance to remove your curse, so just keep trying.

But it has to be *Enchant* or do the regular ones work? I've got it up to +5 now so the regular ones seem to always fail (not sure what the chance is.)

                        Sorry, my bad, it's a 1/8 chance.

So Enchant Armor has a 1/8 chance of uncursing, and *Enchant Armor* has 3-5 attempts, each one having a 1/8 chance.

I think that enchantment failure above +5 is tied to how badly you want it to succeed (including excellent detection of any attempt by the player to pretend he doesn't care). ;-)

@Nick--I thought it was 50% for each successful enchant, so for +0 artifact armor, it's a 25% chance? (Obviously it goes down when to_ac gets past +5.)

I thought that curse breaking was independent of enchantment success, so even if the item was at +15 (and thus was impossible to improve further), you could still break the curse by attempting to enchant it?

Any attempted enchantment, successful or not, has a 1 in 4 chance of uncursing the item; artifacts have an additional 50% chance to resist the uncursing, which gives the 1 in 8 cited by Nick.
The Complainer worries about the lack of activity here these days.
