    Can someone beat this?

    Got this recently on a warrior:

    [Character Equipment]

    b) a Sling of Buckland (x4) (+24,+22) <+5, +2>

    [Character Quiver]

    a) 20 Mithril Shots of Holy Might (2d4) (+22,+30)

    And the combination:

    Combat info:
    3 shots/round.
    Hits targets up to 140 feet away.
    Average damage/round: 1081.8 vs. evil creatures, 1262.1 vs. demons,
    1262.1 vs. undead, and 721.2 vs. others.

    Of course, that's only six rounds of shots, but it can wipe anything with 4k hps, any evil with 6k hps, or any undead/demon with 8k hps.

      i hit 1350 with a x6 bow and slay evil. ranger.

      speaking of which ... do arrows of holy might even exist? i have yet to see any, yet i've seen plenty .. ermm .. *some* bolts of holy might.

        b) the Long Bow of Mellene (x6) (+12,+20) <+3>

        h) the Cloak of Tirindor [1,+13] <+2>
        +2 shooting speed.

        2) 20 Mithril Arrows of Holy Might (3d4) (+20,+29)
        Average damage/round:
        2746 vs. undead, 2746 vs. demons,
        2441 vs. evil creatures, and 1830.5 vs. others.

                Most of the time they end up with a Lothlorien bow or, worse, meleeing Morgoth. But the chance for a jackpot like this is a driving force when playing them, and they need it, in the sense that they arent the easiest of classes. If I had to play a game for a lot of money in case of a win, ranger is about the last class I would pick - too many stars need to align to make them superior to other classes. Given that the chance for a peak is smaller, it seems fine that the potential peak is higher.

                  Once again I will restate my stance that extra shots should not be a thing in the game. Imagine having a stat modifier that was "you get as many extra melee blows/round as your base blows/round". That's basically what extra shots is.

                    Well....the supposition is that you're limited by ammo. In reality, that limitation is much weaker now.

                      Even if ammo were still hard to carry, extra shots is so powerful that you can be using basic (+0, +10) 1d4 arrows and it still outcompetes other means of dealing damage. And arrows like those have always been available in nigh-unlimited quantity.

                      An x3, +20-to-dam bow with 2 shots/round firing +10 arrows is dealing 3 * 2 * (20 + 12.5) = 195 damage/round, ignoring critical hits. That's a trivial setup to achieve for many characters, and it's doing more than half the damage that an endgame melee character would expect to achieve (keeping in mind that the damage displays on melee weapons do take critical hits into account). That's with no mana cost, no melee retribution, and the "bullet time" effect of high-speed archery that gives you vastly more chances to react when monsters do something unpleasant.

                      Boost it to an x4 launcher and you have 260 damage/round. Make the arrows also +20 and you're at 356 damage/round. Add a third shot and you're at 534 damage/round (and we see why endgame rangers are so ridiculous).

                      I'd much rather replace extra shots with extra shot power, which is the analogous equivalent to getting 1 extra blow per round. Then we can fiddle with damage values and base multipliers until we get numbers that make sense. I don't think that archery necessarily has to work exactly like melee does, but the current system is basically impossible to balance.

                        You would have to be able to pick up the ammo to kill Morgoth (TO him away, pick up the shots, wait for him to come back, repeat). And hope they last long enough.

                          Holy Might ego exists for all missiles, but they need to be a specific type: Mithril Shot, Seeker/Mithril Arrow, Seeker/Mithril Bolt.
