when i started angband, i thought it was abominable, that artifacts could get damaged; THEY ARE ARTIFACTS!
then i kinda started accepting it, at first because i had to (got some great weapon OOD, after using it to clear a pit of molds - i was noob - i found it was barely usable as a wall hanger), then later i would stash good stuff at home in order to keep it "fresh" for the last fight.
I mean .. you wouldn't DARE show up on the ladder with the cesti of fingolfin .. 5/ +19 ...
ignore the fact that AC is (nearly) irrelevant in the game, it's just that you were not careful with those precious items .. shame on you.

ok, jokes aside, having "some of your potions of !heal are destroyed" by a vortex when you are CL48 and barely notice them, that annoys me. i generally manage to take good care of my artis, but i also generally do not care about the first gen of artis i find, i know i won't be using them long.

It wasn't avoidable; this was early in the game. DLteens. Admittedly I was in a hurry to get somewhere since I have been playing a lot. Usually FrAct isn't an issue until the DL20s.

I didn't have trap detection. I didn't see the trap.

/Sigh. Things were going well with my current character; +5 boots of speed, Nimloth. A cap of telepathy. Then I try to id a helmet by wearing it cause I can't be fussed with dropping picking up dropping picking up dropping picking up; (oops, forgot to !d nimloth etc.)

Now instead of a cap of telepathy on my head I have a helmet of aggravate monsters and reduce stats. *enchant armor* are not that readily available at DL38. Not sure what to do. Really tempted to force quit and reload.

Just realized this cursed helm gives a fair bit of extra damage. Maybe I will see how I fair.

With AggrMonster and no Telepathy; is there anyway I can explore a level with 9 danger feeling?

Of course there is. The bigger question is, do *you* think it is wise to do so.

I survived a bout with Gorlim stuck on my head. It CAN be done!

I didn't yet have TO so I promptly left the level.

Shortly after came upon another 9-? level, but this time had a wand of TO and cloak of recharge. At the start of the level I picked up a second TO. Quaffed a potion of Enlightenment and used an early find detection rod to find one difficult monster in the entire vault (9-9 level); level 90 Charcharoth. I was fortunate he didn't breathe on me when my wand failed first try. He stepped closer to me and second try it worked. My speed was 8 at the time. I left the level with speed 10 (or 13, depending if I decide Thalkettoth is better than Himring at DL40. I am guessing that the amulet of trickery was giving the vault 9 feeling.

My damage output is quite nice right now. Gorlim gives me (+8, +8) and just picked up an amulet of trickery which frees up my second finger for a second +10 damage ring. Also picked up gloves of slaying (+1, +8).

                Heavy XBOW of Umber

I assume Aggravates Monsters Nearby doesn't stack on different equipment you are wearing? Just found heavy xbow of Umber. So might as well wield it if I'm already aggravating everything nearby with Gorlim?

                  Correct... amundo.

It's really satisfying to play with a heavy curse, and just make the best of it. Gorlim is a very mixed blessing, but with a warrior it is possible to take advantage of. The biggest problem isn't the aggravation, however. It is losing the hat slot for abilities and resistances. (+8,+8) is rarely worth the trade. If you find an Elven ring you can make it work.

An Elven ring? I have never seen such a rarity (please don't tell me about it! . My resistances aren't too bad. Chaos is the most concerning to me at the moment, followed my sound, dark, stun and light. Got my speed up to 27 again. Wondeirng if I can make this shield of Thorin work somehow that some nobody dropped. I was really enjoying the recharge cloak of Thingol or something like that, but now that I finally found pConf in a cloak of the Magi (and also in Inwë pendant) I think, now that I am going into the draining levels, the cloak of Thingol has probably served its purpose. (it's success rate on recharging is really good, tho; much better than scrolls).

Also want to get this arbalist of damage to work with my setup.

Still need ESP. Though with my CON up to over 900, maybe just be careful all the time and detecting periodically is good enough? (I have 7 staves of detection and 7 staves of TO). Will post my character once I'm home again with all the loot I collected from this 9-9 DL67 vault.
