Hm, you might be right for a lowest-level competition, since players would need to avoid getting experience. Fastest time it is, then!

Would still stay at home. The fastest way to win is always diving, and aggravation makes that impossible. The only mode where DW wouldnt be horrible would be a "only one try" kind of competition. Even then, I doubt I would wield it come midgame. Basically, replace it with the first weapon that does more damage - a thanc should qualify.

Aggravation does NOT make diving impossible, as PowerWyrm can attest. See comp 164. http://angband.oook.cz/competition.php?showcompo=164

But we can't give you love and rhetoric without the blood. Blood is compulsory. They're all blood, you see.”

Not if you glued it to the comp character's hands.

Yep. Permanently curse it and equip it before the competition starts, if that's what it takes.

The biggest problem I see with Deathwreaker from the start is that it is too heavy to wield until the @ has been able to jump up Strength and Dexterity.

And that will make things interesting! Anyway I suspect that even with (reasonably optimized) starting STR/DEX, you'll be able to turn early enemies into pancakes. Deathwreaker's damage is just that absurd.

with a human warrior and 12 points in STR once you equip Deathwreaker you'll have a STR of 18/90 and be strong enough to wield it.

Out of curiosity I just made a default stat Hobbit mage and gave him Deathwreaker with the debug options. He gets the "You have trouble wielding such a heavy weapon" message, but is still running about happily dealing about 100 points of melee damage to everything, with occasional ridiculous critical hits. (My record so far: hitting for 395 against an Apprentice.) It's a little hard to stay alive against packs of aggravated monsters, but all in all it's really quite fun. I haven't even bothered to learn any spells yet.

As usual, ToME2 has been there already by having a playable race that has permenet aggravation (Maia).

As for diving with aggravation, I wasnt saying its impossible, but detrimental enough that I would eschew DW if I had a decent alternative. If you want to glue it on from the start you are in agreement with me I guess.

I find it amusing you can get crits with weapons that are too heavy for you to properly wield. I guess you just kind of rest one end on the ground, push the top over in the direction of your enemy, and hope something good happens?

Wielding and lifting are different things. I suspect @ is lifting it high and dropping it in the general direction, like a short caber toss.
