    How to handle -more- prompts?

    Hi guys
    I am trying some variants based on older versions of angband that lack auto clear more prompt.I was wondering how to handle that -more- spam?Is there any way except pressing space and enter all the time manually?

    Under 'User Interface Options' there is an option to 'Automatically clear -more- prompts'

      If you're in a variant that doesn't have that option, then it's probably old enough to also support macros in addition to keymaps. The main difference between the two is that macros can be used any time the game is waiting for any input, including in menus and during -more- prompts. So just make a macro that does "\e\e\e\e\e" or something like that, and hit it when you want to clear the prompts.

      Personally I just hit spacebar a bunch, though.

        @derakon

        thank you.
        now to macro every single key with its original function + \e\e\e\e\e

          Hang on. Do you just to want to clear -more- prompts after taking an action, i.e. to never see the -more- prompt? I believe there's still an option for that in Vanilla. ("auto_more" or something?)

            Guys, read the OP more carefully. "I am trying some variants based on older versions of angband that lack auto clear more prompt." (emphasis added)

            I mean yes, this post is technically in the wrong forum, but that's no cause to keep making this mistake.

              I think auto_more still, applies? I'm pretty sure it's been in Angband almost forever -- so variants would have picked it up, even if they were forked from Angband really early.

                If someone says that they don't have an "automatically clear more prompts" option, then it's not very nice to tell them "turn on the automatically clear more prompts" option. It most certainly hasn't been around forever; there are plenty of variants that therefore don't have it as an option.

                  A small amount of investigating in the Angband Variant Repository tells me that auto_more originated in 2.8.5 beta, and there are indeed plenty of variants that forked before then.

                    Doh. Yeah, I upon re-reading I can see that OP actually explicitly mentioned that. Reading comprehension fail on my part. Guess I must have just been reading too fast and missed it because of the lack of underscore.

                    @OP: Sorry about that.

                    EDIT#1: Btw, re: variants: I was just going by the intuition that ToME 2 is ancient and was forked from PernAngband (even more ancient), and I see that was ultimately forked from Angband 2.4ish, but I guess it auto_more might have been implemented independently in the "fork line".

                    EDIT#2: Btw, OP: Do you have a pointer to the source and the capability of compiling from source? If so, it should be pretty easy for one of the programmers around here to produce a small patch to just hard-code the "auto_more" behavior so you don't have to bother with creating a gazillion macros.

                      Oops - my bad for starting that. I do apologize for my lack of read skills
