Can you auto-squelch in the prf file?

I have yet to win ironman with a ranger character (my current challenge). Since I've died quite a few times and like to squelch $ and prayer books since they are of no use in ironman, I find it tedious to start a new game and squelch the crap I won't use.

So, is it possible to squelch $ and prayer books for every incarnation of character? and if yes, how do I do it?

Currently, no. The possibility used to exist; I believe it was taken out because mostly it's not what you want (as you progressively ignore more stuff as you go along).

I worried something like that was the case.

I figure I could always create a base save file on the first turn, squelching the junk, and reload that after I die.

        Better way

Would it not be better to have a default always squelch items profile you could load up. I personally play lots of different combinations so auto squelching what I squelched last time would be disastrous (mage then priest), but some items are all ways useless (just have to be found and identified).

Take a look at poschengband. There you can add if statements and much more so have one file for the entire game

This is starting to remind me of the nightmarish ToME 2 "automatizer", which incorporated an XML editor into the game to help you set up your item-ignoring settings.

I know that's an extreme and we don't have to go that far, but nonetheless I'm leery of making the squelch system too "smart".

I think vanilla can read if statements too. I have seen them in system .prf files.

Yup. It's pretty extreme, clunky and while there might be a few players who actually bothered to craft the "perfect sequelch setup" it actually just impedes a much more streamlined playing experience for most players who wouldn't bother. IMO the Angband system is much to be preferred -- though it would need a little bit of tweaking to work for the double-affix system in T2. (Of course it helps that the TMJ problem in Angband has largely been solved. The sheer amount of stuff you have to squelch in T2 is insane, so it's actively annoying to have to start from scratch.)
