    Does a Dreadlord even lift?

"The Dreadlord tries to pick up a Tulwar (2d4), but fails."

    Hahaha! What causes this? Butterfingers?

It turned out to be *slay evil*. Would that do it? I don't think I have randarts turned on.

Yes - monsters can't pick up artifacts or things that slay them.

Very nice touch! I've never seen that before.

They can crush them, so if you see a message that something fails to crush something, then that's artifact.

But can monsters drop weapons that slay them?

Oddly, yes, but OTOH that's something we don't want to "fix".

Otherwise something like Dracolich would almost always drop utter crap.

This sounds to me like a.... lichy abstraction.

I'm trying to resist jokes about Dreadlords going to the gym, I guess I failed.

Given the OP used a variant of the "do you even lift" meme, you aren't alone. Once you're a Dreadlord you probably have minions to do all the heavy work, while you live an unlife of luxury.

Would be kind of fun if for some of the dumb OCD monsters they would get slower as they pick up more things. So you could keep the green glutton ghosts from running all around or get Smeagol down to a reasonable speed by laying out a bunch of iron shots or coaxing them to walk over a lance or something.

Why discriminate against the smart OCD monsters? Vampires have to stop and count everything in their path.

Pebbles for Smeagol is already a viable tactic on humans with enough dex & damage output.
