angband.exe has stopped working - as soon as I attempt to play

Hi,

Just downloaded 4.04, unzipped, double clicked on exe.

The game immediately crashes and at the same time two windows are opened sitting off the bottom of the screen called term 4 and 5. These windows are just blank.

I'm on a laptop running windows 10.

Any ideas or advice on how to get it running would be most appreciated, thanks in advance.

Is it a clean install? Then it sounds like there is a compatibility problem with Windows 10. Another reason to close that annoying "upgrade" window popping up every day on Win 7.

ok. I was thinking it was a compatibility issue. In the end I tried ticking disable display scaling on high DPI settings, in the compatibility tab.

Which did the trick, hurrah

Ahhhh. You are probably running it on a modern hi DPI machine. I grabbed out Win10 test laptop here at the office at break and Angband 4.0.4 had started fine. But that test laptop is about 5 years old and has a low DPI screen so that display scaling probably never kicked in.

So its a Hardware Dependent Windows 10 compatibility bug.
