Angband 3.3 vs. 4.0.3.

I noticed the download page on this site has 3.3 as the latest version. But you can download and compile 4.0.3 from Github (which is what I did.)

What's the difference between the two versions, as far as gameplay? Which one would be the best choice to play, and why?

That download page is quite out of date - I had actually forgotten it was even there. You'll find the game's main website at rephial.org.

You can also find details of old versions and changelists there. 3.3 was perfectly fine, but I can't see any particular reason to choose it over 4.0.

Or 3.5 if 4.x doesn't feel right, though I would prefer 4.x.

Great, thanks for clarifying this. I've been playing 4.0.3., since that was the first version I came across when I went searching a few weeks ago. And I absolutely love it. The mechanics and interface are superb and it's been running perfectly on my Debian system.
