    Graphical Tilesets...

Having just come back to Angband, and downloading the new version for Mac OS X, I decided to try out the tilesets, which I've never used in the past.

I finally settled on the classic tileset. I just went back to the ASCII to try it again.

I think I would prefer the tilesets if there weren't some tiles that are just hard to see and identify. Like it or not, the biggest advantage of classic ASCII, is characters are simple enough to be distinct. However, with Tilesets, the resolution Angband gets played at causes the tiles to just be very small, and often, tiles are hard to see and distinguish.

I guess i'm wondering if this is an issue for others and what others prefer to play.

Do you prefer ASCII or tilesets and why? If Tilesets, which ones do you prefer?

Shockbolt's tiles are incredibly beautiful, but not practical for playing on my laptop, so, ASCII it is.

Well, we can do you blood and love without the rhetoric, and we can do you blood and rhetoric without the love, and we can do you all three concurrent or consecutive. But we can't give you love and rhetoric without the blood. Blood is compulsory. They're all blood, you see.”

I use ASCII with solid walls. One reason I love Angband is the nostalgia component of it for me.

Given all the talk around here lately, I wanted to try Shockbolt's tiles. I primarily play on a iMac. Is there a way to increase the size of the tiles or zoom the screen? When I have the play screen take up the whole screenspace, I have tiny tiles and see most if not all of a level map.

On a PC it's on the top bar menu, under graphics.
I'm afraid I've no idea about Macs, so that's probably not very helpful.
              Sorry.

Unfortunately, under the graphics menu, I don't have any way to change the size, just the choice between ascii and various tiles.

I can increase tile size via fontsize, but that limits the view since most of the screen is eaten up by character stats.

oh well, looks like I'll play with the good ole ascii (which is much of the charm of angband).

Another Shockbolt fan here. I use 6x3 tile magnifier on a desktop PC. The tiles are big enough to appreciate, small enough that I'm not getting hit from offscreen (very often, ha).
