So no other benefit such as cure blindness, confusion, or anything like that?
Nope. Slime molds are exactly that - slime. You're starving, and you're just trying to survive. If you can find ANYTHING else to eat, you will do so. But, the slime mold can save your life if you're fainting from hunger.
Somebody has probably killed Morgoth with throwing a slime mold for 1d1, knowing the folks on here...

Excellent - into my copy of the game they go!
They do still work, post-refactor...right?
For my next trick, I'm going to dig up a copy of Fangband, diff it against frog-knows, and apply the diff to 4.0. And if it doesn't work then I'm going to complain to the management!
(In other words, ha ha ha ha ha I would be very surprised)
I thought slime molds were a refernce to nethack, where you can obtain 'fruit' that is named whatever you set the fuit name to. However the default fuit name is "slime mold".
My slime mold habit started back when I used to play Rogue on my Atari ST - and I would take them back Home and name them, just like you're describing (except I named mine alphabetically - Alan, Brian, Colin etc.)
When I switched to Angband I stopped naming them and just tried to see how many I could collect in a game. I still do
So don't worry, you're not the only one out there.
