No, a bot would actually manage to start them on time.

Some degree of realism is all fine and dandy, but it's not always trivial to find a good balance between it helping immersion and being a pain in the backside.

Come to think of it, every armed or armored humanoid should drop whatever he's wearing upon death, and a swarm of insects should be unable to drop plate mail (nudge nudge)

Realistic Angband tried something like that. Piling all the orc armors in one pile and recalling at like 5000% encumberance. Realistic!

There actually was a "Realistic Angband" variant at one point. It went in some weird directions. There was a lot of items because every orc would drop a full set of gear. If I recall correctly, speed also improved your AC.

I agree fully with this. At first it felt odd to throw away stuff that had no value (the OCD -me still wanted to carry them along "just in case"), but once I got rid of that feeling it was liberating. Now I can actually use wands, and not keep max charges in order to get max payment from shops.

Then of course there's the issue that Morgoth should just wait at the bottom on the stairs on level 1 and whack new adventurers as they appear rather than letting them level up and find nice gear. Somehow I doubt that would be a popular form of realism.

Yeah, there's that. Well, maybe not Morgoth himself, but at least a bunch of gatekeeper balrogs.
