What does "AU" stand for in the player screen?

    Hello,
Just started playing the game. I've been trying to google and search what "AU" abbreviation stands for in the left hand player info pane. Unfortunately, that's a difficult term to search, and after reading the help I didn't see any info on that either. I registered just to ask this question can someone enlighten me please, thanks!

Yup. As in "you find 143 Au pieces worth of Ag".

Through the state-of-art Angband stock exchange, they get instantly converted to the global currency, which is Au and deposited in your account via wire transfer. You only see the account balance and weighs nothing since you don't carry all tha gold

Oh ok I had been using "C" to bring up character screen to check how much money I had. Any reason why in the character screen its "gold" but in the pane its "AU"?

I'd say because au is shorter then gold, but level that appears in the pane is longer then gold anyways. Probably because everyone who does the coding already knows that au is gold & doesn't even notice it? I've never really noticed it, but chemistry was always 1 of my better subjects so my head automatically converts it. Considering there's the space to write gold, it probably would be clearer.

That panel is 12 characters wide, and using 'AU' allows for 9 digits of gold. So historical reasons

I think they're off in the "high atomic number" portion of the periodic table, along with Unobtanium. (Of course nobody's discovered them yet, so they don't have actual Latin names yet.)

So we're basically just finding secret codes on the floor that are instantly redeemable for AU through an app on @'s mobile device with which he always adventures.

And hopefully he gets a signal down there.

What, you think Morgoth would have the only 5000'-deep dungeon in the world that doesn't have wi-fi?

                        re: 9 Digits

In the current version gold becomes less important the higher the character develops. The highest objects i can remember to have bought in the black market were 150.000 for potion of Augmentation or 270.000 for book#9 of mages or priests. So it would be possible to take up a renaming of AU in GOLD for the next Version

On the other Hand ... everyone playing this game longer than 5 minutes could intuitively recognizes that coins found increase the AU-value and thus should be able to conclude it shows the total amount of coins found.
                        Blondes are more fun!

Ultimately it's short for "aurum," which is just Latin for "gold."

and here i am thinking that the gold thing was done to save space for more important gameplay aspects.
