    Exactly, which is why I thought it should either spam these status ailments only when in melee range, so that an adventurer is well-advised to never ever let this unique get into melee range, or alternatively be so fragile that most characters can kill it off with only one or two shots from a large distance.

      This sounds like a good monster, not necessarily a unique. In fact, we already have these types of monsters. They are the various stationary molds, jelly's and eyes. Some have ranged attacks some don't. Some have lots of HP, some are fragile.

      Anyway, my issue with an early game unique that kills at melee range is that with radius 1 torches, you very often blunder into a stationary monster when running around a corner.

        I'd like to see an Old Man Willow unique. No movement, lots of HP, perhaps powers such as slow, kind of like a trapper in some respects.
