So I thought of making an anti summoning corridor. I tunnel through some granite, but with telepathy on one of my equipment I saw that Morgoth was coming in. For now, I keep on the mace of disruption. I do know that Morgoth like Sauron would summon some monsters in. I didn't want to risk the disaster of being stunned, so I kept the mace though the Glaive of Pain would have done the most damage.

Fight time. He summons Vecna immediately, and then on the next turn he causes an earthquake soon after. So much for making a tunnel. In any case, I teleport Vecna away. He summons some liches and other nasties. Scroll of mass banishment. I fight and he summons and when there's too much I use mass banishment again, until the scrolls run out.

They run out. I stand my ground, or I would if he stopped using earthquake. Sometimes I get lucky and the earthquake deposits me a few spaces away. The archliches don't care, but it takes them and Morgoth some time to move back to me so it's a perfect chance to heal up.

The battle goes long. Damage is all right, and I'm making a dent on him. Thankfully all the potions of *healing* I saved up came through for me. I use them instead of heal. Heal would be the last resort, since I don't want to think of failing to cast it on a battle like this.

The mushrooms of vigor help out a lot as well. My equipment does not sustain strength, so as the fight goes on my strength gets lowered, so they help out when my strength goes too low.

This battle does take a long while, indeed. Eventually, Morgoth is at low hp. Thankfully he doesn't run away in fear. Having to go through a sea of monsters would be irritating. In the end, the glaive of pain was at home, the blade of chaos wasn't used. You could say the mace of disruption... disrupted the face of Morgoth.

And so it ends, in a way. After I kill off the rest of the hangers on, I pick up Grond and the crown. Then I hunt down Vecna. All in all, I used up 4 scrolls of mass banishment, about 20 potions of *healing* 10 each for mana potions and mushroom of vigor, and one elvish waybread because I made a mistake in the eat command.

I go down the stairs, I teleport out of town, and I close the game and post here.

    Whew.

      Impressive! And congratulations!

You know, there are lots of players, including me, who failed to win the game for years. ^^

That elvish bread might have been fatal, because if you had got fed up with all the potions and mushrooms you would have got a -10 speed for being gorged.

Don't forget to post your winner.

Thanks all. I already posted in on the ladder, though I haven't killed off my character yet.

As for the next game, I think I may have rushed in too early. For starters, I wanted to try randarts and all and forgot to do that on the birth screen. And naming a warrior Warrior the Warrior was too long so it only shows Warrior the W.

Thinking of either a kobold or dwarf warrior. Either blind, or poison resist, and having a hard time choosing either.

edit: and yeah. That bread would have been a disaster, since I needed to recover my lost strength. Thankfully, the character was no longer full anyway.

I think gorged -status was removed in 3.5. You only get full no matter how much you eat.

IIRC you can't get gorged on lembas, presumably because feeling bloated is too undignified for Elves.

Was curious about that a while back when I read the text on the scroll that made a character full. Bought a lot of rations and ate them all in one go - all I got was full. No gorged or anything.

Good to know. I remember several occasions where I got my hero gorged with a healing potion. ^^

Incidentally, for future fights you can teleport Morgoth away, and then cast Destruction (or read a scroll) to blow up your vicinity, which will remove any summoned monsters from the area, including uniques. Morgoth will find his way back to you pretty quickly.

I was thinking about doing that, but I was a bit worried that Morgot would have regen some hp while he was trying to find me. Ah well. The info will be useful on future tries.

Since my plan is to go with a warrior next time, I'll have to save up more on potions, and especially scrolls and staves since I won't have the prayer books to rely on next time.

Trying to update the ladder on my new character. Seem to be getting errors asking if it's a character dump.

In any case, started going at it with a dwarf warrior. Win or lose, next one might be a rogue of some race I haven't decided yet. Gonna try to get used to using bows more on this warrior first.

Randarts are on. Somehow, I've already got a handful of them, though half of those finds are pretty junky. Found the equivalent of the Star of Elendil randart though. With a rod of treasure, and another rod of trap location, it's more or less a substitute until I find something better. Need to find some rod that can detect monsters, though.

Also found an ego helm with telepathy. Kinda found it amusing to find one so early on when I didn't get telepathy gear on my paladin until near the end.

P.S. Pit traps are evil for my warrior. Everytime I forget to use the trap rod, I seem to fall into one. *sigh* so many safe levels that has good treasures wasted.

like seriously, my luck. Found a quarterstaff that does extra attacks, so soon it'll do a lot of damage once I max out my strength and dexterity, and it already does 568 damage to dragons, and 374 to undead and demons. Plus an immunity to acid.

Haha, alas, I bit off a little bit more than I can chew with my warrior. How unfortunate of me. A real shame too, since the quarterstaff I got did 500 plus damage on demons and undead, and almost 700 at dragons, plus an immunity to acid to boot - and this was before I even reached dl50.

Oh well, lesson learned on watching my hp a bit more carefully against a unique. Will try the Rogue soon enough with this.

Using the options menu (= sign), you can set a hitpoint warning so you are notified anytime your hitpoints fall below a certain percentage of your maximum. I usually set mine for 50%.
