    Do you disarm traps?

I regularly have my mage detect all doors/traps as I explore a level. So far, I've been disarming each trap I come across. However, as I get into deeper levels, I come across traps that degrade my stats as I disarm them.

Today, something occurred to me - given that I know where they are, should I simply stop disarming traps? I admit that I've partly been doing it because it's there. However, this might be a foolhardy approach.

How about you - do you disarm traps?

If they're in the way and I don't have some magical means of getting rid of them, sure. Arcane casters get a spell to destroy adjacent traps (and doors, IIRC, so be careful with it), and sometimes a vault with lots of traps will happen to also have a Wand of Disarming or something nearby, which is handy for speeding progress through the vault if nothing else.

But if the trap is just there and I can easily go around it, I generally do -- outside of disaming harmless early traps (pits and gas traps) for the experience.

What you want to watch out for are the red traps, which can drain stats, and the blue/orange ones, which can teleport you or summon monsters. White ones are trapdoors which will take you off the level, for that matter.

Yeah, I compulsively disarm traps for the "free" XP :P

I *try* to methodically disarm every trap that I see, even the ones in the middle of the rooms, if I have the spell or rod to do so.

I've just dreaded the inevitable scenario where I teleport to a spot, and find the only escapable direction to be occupated by a trap. Then having to use an extra turn to disarm it. And hello tombstone. Again.

Errr. This is funny. I do not disarm traps, unless they are in the way, why would I ? I was assuming that everyone behaved like that.

The XP you get is very low and not worth the risk (as it should be).

I have a system. Pits must go, because XP and OCD. Red traps go if they are in the way, by spell if I can. I hate debuffs. Blue traps I will avoid, because I can run away with them, and because early on I can clear the level and come back to disarm them for XP (I play a lot of O, compulsive safe behaviour is handy), Orange traps I will destroy if humanly possible, but will never attempt to disarm because I am paranoid. Trap doors are handy for diving and as an escape.

I tend to disarm for the experience, especially early on. However, I avoid brown traps (unless I need to get passed them) because I don't want my equipment damaged. For red traps, it depends how close I am to leveling up. If I'm close, my stats will be quickly restored so I'll do it. Also, if I have STR, CON, and DEX sustained, I'll disarm. I avoid summoning traps if at all possible. I try and avoid trap doors until I'm ready to go down to the next level.

I disarm traps to clean things up. It's just somehow satisfying that there is no trap no more.

I try to just avoid them unless I have to.

It depends on my mood. I probably disarm some traps when I shouldn't though.
