    Is TryHard ready, and general advice

    After a number of months, i finally think i may be onto my first winner in this game. TryHard the rogue has become a beast, killing everyone everywhere he looks, and finally got some artifacts and feeling awfully bossmode with his stockpile of consumables (he is also extremely aware of his gaping nether resist hole).

    The real question . . . is he ready for Sauron? I would prefer not to get my face broken and having never been this far through the game any general advice taking on the final enemies would be appreciated. I can hold my own vs nearly anything right now, and have no problem just simply clearing whole levels no matter what is there nearly. Still, feeling awfully scared and insecure about taking on the final bosses.

        until about 15 levels ago i used them, then found i had zero space to spare and i wasnt using most of them much anyway. so chucked them all and kept my resist and detection books and just ran with it. What spells do i need my other books for?

          Teleportation, teleport level, teleport other, door creation, haste self, and those are just the ones you need, not the ones that can be useful. Essentially, pack Mordenkainens and a copy of book four and you should be fine. Books two and three aren't quite as useful, but Mordenkainen's is a must, although it shouldn't be used in dangerous situations.

            You don't have a really good weapon--360 damage/turn vs. evil is pretty good but not great. Keep an eye out for big-dice Holy Avenger and Extra Blows(+2) weapons. They often do as much damage as all but the very best artifacts.

            But still, you have more than enough to kill Sauron.

              Big spells in the arcane set:

              * Detect/Reveal Monsters, Detect Traps, Detect Objects
              * Haste Self
              * Teleport Other
              * Create Doors
              * Resistance / Shield

              Detect/Reveal Monsters is still useful even after you have telepathy, since there are mindless monsters you'll want to know about (top-tier golems, quylthulgs). Haste Self and Teleport Other ought to be obvious. Create Doors is invaluable for restricting LOS, even if it's ultimately a temporary measure. Resistance can greatly decrease the damage you take from elemental attacks; Shield can do the same for physical attacks (+50 AC is nothing to sneeze at).

                I carry Tenser's, always, for Hero and Berserk Strength. Combined, these really help in fighting, and they only take a single slot. Branding random ammo found in the dungeon is a nice side effect.

                  just beat him. was literally just a matter of manning up, plonking a destruction spell in the middle of the level and fighting him with a load of consumables in melee. will consider the above posts before fighting morgoth though.
                  Any other obvious tick boxes i dont have ticked before i man mode level 100? more consumables etc?

                    The good thing is that if you survived this far without any books, you will probably feel like you're on god mode when you do have them. I dunno how you were managing without haste self and resistance...

                    Your melee damage is pretty terrible, I'd hope to have a bit more for morgoth. Thunderfist or the Glaive of Pain would probably suffice. Or you can pray for deathwreaker

                    High-elf rogue was my first winner, good luck with it. It's really nice to be able to choose most of your fights, huh?

                      i have like 20 rods of speed, i am continually at 33 or higher speed forever and about 20 tele other rods. ive found a limitless supply of seeker arrows in a vault. always have a stack of tele scrolls and a couple tele level scrolls, i have the resist all spell and shield spell in my spell book.

                      i dont understand why i would need the others for anything at all except maybe create doors. with the above though i dont feel i need a spell to do tele lev/teleself/haste.

                      meh i dunno, i find i can just clear my way through anything as it is, pray for demon pits, tele the balrogs and just hold the button down and mow through everything else.

                      more worried about my damage in melee than anything else when fighting the big uniques. dont want to burn all my consumables spending days taking them out.

                          Ok heres the plan. Scum a couple dlvls for a better weapon. If none found by around clvl48, take consumables out and attempt to bash Morgoth in a classic fist fight to the death.
