Needs some advice (newbie lvl 22 Hobbit rouge)...

After many stupid deaths of my first few characters (mostly overwhelmed by mice), I tried a hobbit rouge. In first impression, his damage isn't good
(I guess because of the low strength start, compared to a warrior). I think that the motivation for me at that time is his stealth and the best item I think I would ever get (or at least, the most useful one):

The rod of Identify (Wondering about its rarity...Found it at dlvl 5)
Well, I never have to use my pseudo-ID (or what its name is) again or use gold on stupid ID scrolls on useless stuff.

This is a very promising character and I don't want to do something stupid. Is there any advice for my current character before I go down to dlvl 20?(Still need detect invisible as some say) Thanks alot!

Here is my character dump: (sorry if it's in the wrong format, its my first time and I'm trying to mimic what others are doing)

You're in pretty good shape. The most important thing you're missing, though, isn't See Invisible -- it's Free Action. Wear your Gloves of Free Action instead of Pauraegen. You'll lose lightning resistance, but better that than risking getting paralyzed -- paralysis can easily end your life.

Once you find a Ring of Free Action, you can replace one of your Rings of Protection (pretty worthless rings) with that and switch back to Pauraegen. Then you'll really be in good shape. I'd also suggest wearing a Ring of See Invisible instead of a Ring of Protection. Extra AC isn't especially valuable, at least not in the quantities provided by those rings.

    Good luck!

Thanks for the advice! I thought Hobbits have inherent paralyze immunity... I hope rings of see invisible is not hard to find..

No, that's gnomes that have inherent Free Action. Hobbits have their dexterity sustained.

All of your abilities, whether inherent or from equipment, will show up on the second page of your character screen. You should get used to checking that over every time you change equipment to make certain you aren't missing anything important.

oh... so the plus sign on the second Character screen is the idea of resistence. Thanks again, I can't wait diving deeper!

Just got to dlvl 28... Found 2 awesome weapons that can let me hit 281/round with poisin or half against those who resist.
By the way, what is the (XN) in front of shooting weapons for, is it shooting power or range?

              Yes.

It's both a multiplier and a governor for the launcher's range. An x4 launcher, for example, deals (4 + slay bonus) * (ammo dice roll + ammo damage bonus + launcher damage bonus) damage. It also has more range than an x2 or x3 launcher.

I was always wondering why everyone is scared of gravity breathes....
And I found out...the hard way.
Well, I had fun playing a rouge, lets try a mage this time!

Ah yes, welcome to Kavlax. We ought to code up a league table of which monsters have killed the most chars, it would be easy enough to do. He'll be easily in the top five.

Yep, I used rod of probing on him. Kavlax the many-headed dragon or something like that. I think I was too arrogant in the end when I can deal 400/round, well at least I learnt something!
I think giant white mice and those explosive breeding critters would be on the top five as well.(maybe indirect death by Farmer maggot? I remembered my mage got trapped in a store by Farmer maggot(too much HP) while a mercenary starts pounding my mage to pulp)
