    Hi from a Variant Fan!

Hi everyone! I've been an age old fan of Angband but never got around to registering with any forums on it and now I'm going back to vanilla I figure now is the best time of any.

My preferred variant is ZAngbandtk but I've just horrifically realised that the ZAngbandtk I'm running is aaaancient

So expect a few questions from me regarding any differences once I've read through your vanilla FAQ.

/me prays v3.3.0 has David Gervais tiles

Edit: Ohgod theres no GUI likeZAtk has /panicmode!

That's interesting that you say that... I've never been able to stomach non-terminal/non-ASCII GUIs for Roguelikes

I'm a newb at Angband myself (old nethacker), so maybe we can laugh at each other :P

    G'luck!

Haha, I think it stems from my inability to see text as images. Its not that I can't; its just that my mind still trys to read it

That and its weird to go from ZAngbandtk which has tiles, audio cues, music, positionable windows, minimap, icons for everything, contextual toolbar.. Its why i feel so lost.

I know the keyboard commands are the same, as I automatically find myself using them, but then there are times where I'm like "Damn I do that using the interface... what key is it! What KEEEY!

V is pretty awsome, with it's improvements over it's predecessors, and keeps getting better, If you want to try a more graphical interface with tiles, try Sangband with it's SDL interface, it's a unique expereince. It's a little harder to learn off the bat, since it has a skill system that's different than other bands.

Vanilla has tiles as an option. On Linux they can be activated by starting with the command:
          src/angband -g -msdl

At least in the version I'm playing. If it doesn't work for you, you may have to take other steps to get tiles.

There is an updated version of OmnibandTK in this thread - note that the game versions are still old, it's just the UI that is updated.
