ToME 2 has a unique scroll that, when read, unkills all uniques you've killed so far. Sound like fun to anyone?

Yes! I'd use it in a heartbeat.

(I don't want to make unique-hunting easier by this change -- just faster. For all I care, summoning uniques this way could double their escort or something.)

How about if dlvl 99 just generated at least one unique per visit until it runs out?

The scroll unkills the uniques, meaning that if you killed gothmog, you have to find an kill him again. It's possible that you meant to reply to the post about scrolls of summon unique, or were referring to them, but the TOME scroll allows you to have extra chances at killing something and getting something from them.

That would work for me. How about after Sauron is dead, it generates the highest ranking surviving unique in his place?

Extra suggestion for maximum cruelty: keep the stairs to 100 locked until all 95 dungeon uniques are dead. Then, to restore some teeth to Morgoth's summons, allow him to resurrect the dead, calling up any unique from the list even though you've already killed them once. So, yes, there would still always be a chance he'd summon Vecna, but it's balanced somewhat by the fact that he's just as likely to summon Lagduf or Bullroarer.

I'm fine with Morgoth being able to resurrect uniques, not so much with the stairs being blocked until you've killed every unique. For me, grinding to kill every unique is boring.

Also, I'm pretty sure that the summon-unique code prefers monsters of comparable level to the current dungeon level. You'll only get Morgy to summon Bullroarer if you've made a point of leaving Bullroarer as the only living unique.

I like that solution too -- it does a good job of preventing the player from rigging the game to get weaker summons and escorts. However, the unique shouldn't block the stairs -- the PC can go fight Morgoth with Mugrash still alive and kicking if they like

Phillip -- No, I was replying to two different posts. I really would love to use a resurrect unique scroll. (This, of course, isn't to say that adding one would be a good idea.)
