Oh dear! I'm sorry. It should have been here, and I should have checked that the link actually worked before posting. My bad.
I can't remember if I stated elsewhere: this is an OSX build. It won't run on Windows or Linux. It's also compressed, but you should be able to expand it by double-clicking.Comment

One issue: it appears the macros interface has been removed. So I redid my macros as "keymaps", but one problem with this is I always had a macro for rest until both HP and mana are restored: this went R&\r. In the keymaps interface, the \r part is not issued as a RETURN in the sequence, forcing me to use only R& for the keymap, then I have to press return myself--changing a 1-key operation into a two-key sequence. Not a huge deal, but given I use this *ALL* the time, I'd like to retain a 1-key sequence for it.
Any way to do this in the current version with macros disabled and only "keymaps" functional?Comment

Next set of issues (in the rebuild from February):
Has the option to highlight your character with a yellow square been removed? I can't find it; I really like this option and want it back...
Looks like a few other things have been rebalanced:
(A) Appears it is harder to get max blows with medium weight weapons. I had 5.0 blows/round with my Paladin on a 16 lb weapon @ Str 18:160, Dex 18:158 in regular 3.2.0; in this build I have only 4.7. I guess we're moving towards bringing smaller weapons back into play later in the game. And I guess there will be real choices when considering a BIG weapon like say Thunderfist or Trident of Wrath... Maybe not for Half-troll warriors or something,
(B) I notice R chaos has been removed from Dal-i-thalion :-( Oh well, I guess I will expect a few other tweaks...
(C) Whoa and object sale prices have been seriously lowered: I also notice the buy/sell differentials are way bigger now too--can buy given object of say 2200, and sell it back for like 700!Last edited by SSK; April 8, 2011, 06:07.Comment

"Nightly" is a bit of a misnomer in this case; "development version" might be more accurate. Basically, periodically the devs will say "Whelp, this looks good" and check in to mainline; until that happens, there's no point making a new build since nothing in mainline has changed. Evidently the work the devs have been doing has meant nothing's been checked in to mainline in awhile.
In other words, March 9th isn't that far behind. My own build's from March 15th; I doubt much changed in those six days.Comment

Another one that has me unhappy is the MARKED change to the amount of "stuff" per dungeon level. Basically the levels are *MUCH* smaller and it looks like it takes nearly nothing to get a "superb" level feeling. Big problems here as far as I'm concerned.
I think the people that are putting together these recent builds are changing *FAR* too much. All I really wanted was a fix to the greater vault problem.Last edited by SSK; April 8, 2011, 07:50.Comment

With nightlies you have no guarantees at all. Stick to the minor releases if you put any value on stability.
That said, it would be nice to see an early 3.3 with fixes to the boots and greater vault bugs.

You could call it 3.2.1.Comment

Yeah I guess sticking to the minor releases would have been wisest. I woulda fixed the vault bug myself if I wanted to delve into getting tools and compiling... Ya think my save file with this character will work with the next minor release I hope? Or has its contact with a nightly-type build poisoned it?
BTW, thanx much to Timo and Derakon for answering a lot of questions and also (Derakon) for posting a compiled build.

Playing the nightlies isn't for everyone. If it's not for you, then that doesn't mean the devs are changing too much; just that the nightlies aren't what you want to play.Comment

Note sure about 3.2.1 - takk has mentioned it a couple of times, but so much has happened since 3.2 that I think it would be quite a lot of work to *decide* what ought to be in 3.2.1, before actually building it. I don't know though - I'm not very good at predicting what takk will do.
While I'm here - yes there has been a lull in the dev pace - which was pretty frantic from xmas until early March. Mainly RL issues for most devs I think, though I continue to suffer the occasional motivational setback. But there are a load of changes in staging which I will push to master this weekend if I can't find any more obvious bugs. Just wanted to warn people that this new nightly will contain a lot of refactoring and almost no gameplay changes - so it may appear that new bugs have been introduced for no immediate gain. But this refactoring will (IMO) be well worth the pain, as it will enable me to rewrite obj-power.c and randart.c for a start, and should facilitate a number of other interesting object- and spell-related things eventually."Been away so long I hardly knew the place, gee it's good to be back home" - The BeatlesComment
