There is a trick I use pretty often, but I'm not sure I've ever seen it mentioned here or on rgra.
Suppose you have two rooms, separated by a couple of rows of granite walls. Sometimes, to get from one room to the other by walking along corridors, you might need to travel a long way. If you go to the edge and phase, you have a fair shot of landing in the other room. Try a few times and you will get there.
This helps to keep down the turncount, but even if you do not care about turncount it can still be advantageous. Most obviously, if the corridor path is blocked by a monster you do not wish to fight, you avoid the monster. Less obviously, if you walk along the path you may come into detection range of monsters you would prefer did not know where you are.
I do this many times a game. The opportunities abound if you look for them.
