    back from long hiatus - warrior help needed

    For various reasons I've been unable to play Angband for quite quite a while now, and have just come back with the release of v3.2 ....

    ... first of all, to the devs: great job guys! as always a great release with great improvements, I really appreciate all the effort you put into the project.

    And maybe because of these improvements (I look at you, fractional blows ) (and also because I've just started playing seriously with this class, being it the only one I still have to beat the game with) I've managed to get a warrior to a decent point,

    ...and have found out what really can be defined as inventory management problems

    So, any suggestions on what should I keep and what should I chuck away?

    (please note I've just recalled back to town, and need to replenish all my essential consumables that I threw away to gain inventory space, because of my immense greed )

    Warriors generally should not wear a ring of con. It might be right at the moment, but it wouldn't hurt too much to toss it and wear something else.

    Scrolls of teleportation are not escapes when you are deep and hurt. Those always go in my games when slots get tight.

    No point in rods of treasure location when you have detection.

    The rod of recall depends on how long your trips are and how you feel about store buyouts. You are actually better off carrying 5 ?recall each trip, and throwing them away at the end to carry one more slot back to town where you restock with 5 more.

    Rod of speed recharges quite quickly now. You could consider tossing the staves.

    Nain is not suitable for a warrior who can get rDis some other way. Generally speaking, rDis on a weapon is only as valuable as the weapon's ability to deal damage.

    Carlammas can go. You will eventually find the Necklace of the Dwarves, which dominates it.

    Arvedui can go once you find Rohirrim or Isildur. You always think you might find a way to use it for shards or nexus or stats, but it never happens.

    For a warrior, pay little attention to resists or other powers on melee weapons. Only immunities matter. Your goal is to use that slot for damage. You generally want to keep the best vs each of dragon, demon, undead, evil, and other. You might make an exception if something you are considering tossing is only a tiny bit better than some other weapon that is more generally useful. It's also a little tricky because extra blows weapons improve more with damage bonuses and with higher str you might get more blows with some heavy weapons.

        So you did. You were wearing The One. General advice doesn't apply very well once that happens. BTW, Arvedui is still a curious choice. I'd have preferred any DSM of speed to it. Except for the last fight, I would have preferred even Caspanion simply for the activation, and you had other armor with better activations.

          eek , i wanted to resist all ~ shards i was missing.. i had no r disenchant for ages too til i got the one~! alot of my things were ruined.. and dsm of speed? i only ever found magic dsm, i hear ego dsm is new of 320 is it ?? my char was 3122 eee

            I had a recent char which preferred Arvedui over Isildur. I had Trickery, Gondor, Thorin and enough other oomph to make stat-bonuses from Rohirrim or Isildur not needed, in which case basic4 & shard would have been only hole in my resistances without any of the three, and Arvedui was the only one giving me shard. It does happen, but not often.

            I think the only case you actually might want to use Arvedui instead of the other two is just shard+basic 4 resistances. In my case I didn't even need nexus, because I had Trickery, but with hole in basic4 I couldn't use Thalkettoth which I would have preferred over Arvedui. rShard is also a very easy to obtain from cloaks of protection (can't remember just now which cloak I had, maybe a magi with ESP?).

            Actually now that I think of it, good Elvenkind with shard would have been better than Arvedui (I could have had use for more stealth).

              The first thing I noticed was (as has already pointed out) you've got Holhenneth and a Star that cover all of your detection needs, you can vendor those rods.

              I'd also recommend wearing the Ring of Barahir for Poison Resist.

                Shard just isn't that important. His ladder dump had speed less than +30, so even speed+1 DSM would have served him better.

                By the time you have sound and confusion covered, who ever needs all four basic? If you only need one, would you prefer having shard resistance to wearing DSM of that type? I guess you might. Now that egos are common on DSM, the question is shard resistance vs the best ego DSM you see of that type?

                I'd generally prefer any robe or DSM of permanence just for sustains, or any armor of elvenkind with a decent stealth bonus. All of those cover basic 4 as well. Of course, sustains and stealth do not matter if you are wearing The One.

                  Side note for warriors (or anything that 'Whacks' things for a living): never confuse a Gray 'm' for a slighly Gray'er 'm' . It's a bit OT from inventory management but 'm' will trash your hard earned gear. Just a friendly reminder.

                          Depends how you play, using my style there is no difference at all, except in very rare case when there is insta-kill welcoming party at the other end of the stairs. Disconnected stairs is just mainly more annoying to not know about at least one stairs and need to search for stairs to get anywhere.
