    3.2rc1 - the 0 gold bug

To avoid cluttering up the 3.2RC thread, I wanted to keep this separate.

I have a suspicion that the bug with new characters starting with 0 gold only ever occurs with a brand new savefile.

If you get 0 gold with a new char using an existing savefile (i.e. after the death of the previous character), please post here and attach the savefile.

    Thanks.

Ok, I have pushed a fix for this to the staging branch, which will be in the hourly builds as soon as another dev has tested and confirmed the fix.

Well, rangers never get start gold, but they have extremely expensive equipment, so I don't think that's a bug.
Otherwise, the bug only occurs with new savefiles as far as I know.

Doh. For some reason rangers were still starting with a broadsword, even though warriors and rogues now start with short swords.

Both issues are now fixed, so all chars now start with some leftover gold, even with a new savefile. The next 'nightly' build should be up in an hour or two.

Admittedly rangers only get about 20gp left whereas magi get over 300, but as you say, that's the equipment.

Yeah, but I think that paladins also start with a broadsword. They will be rich when they get the shortsword instead, but their equip will be bad.

Paladins kept the broadsword, 'cos they don't get any armour.

Could you please replace the brith_money option for those of us who don't like the initial equipment choices? That will be particularly important if we move in the direction that items are sold for 1/6 what they cost to buy.

Well, we're actually intending to do something a bit different. Instead of buying every char (of a given class) the same starting kit, we want a menu of kits for people to choose. So your paladin might have:

                1. 2-h weapon, ?PB1, ?WoR

                2. 1-h weapon, shield, soft leather, ?PB1

                3. short bow, arrows, ?PB1, robe

etc. etc. You get the picture. Much easier and more flexible for new players, than having to sell/buy at the start of the game, and doesn't force them down the same starting path each time.

There will of course be a menu option to pre-buy no kit at all.

I promise to do this *before* the store suddenly starts offering only 1/6 of the purchase price. In the meantime, no_selling starts you naked for obvious reasons ...
