    Squelching aggressively?

Here's a character who is probably my most successful so far, mostly due to some very good luck in drops and equipment finds (I usually play not-very-carefully and die about 10-15 levels above this). His lack of identify is making sifting through the now-common ego items rather tedious though; my question is, if I now squelch "all but artificats" for melee weapons, missle weapons, and maybe body armor (well, might not want to miss the best of the dragon scale mails), am I going to miss out on anything I would want at this point?

    Thanks!

Wouldn't squelch body armor. Can't think of a normal item beating bard/calris/sting... save legendary slings of the buckland
And, on a side note, why are you wearing calris and not sting?

Until finer grained squelching is possible, my solution for your situation is the following.

Squelch all but artifacts for weapons (or armor). When you see a base weapon that you might want to keep, say a blade of chaos, mace of disruption or a scythe of slicing, inscribe it with !k before picking it up. Then you can ID it. A holy avenger or slay evil top weapon can do more damage than most artifacts.

You can do the same thing with armor, and inscribe high level DSM with !k before picking it up.

This is obviously a poor solution from a gameplay perspective, but it may be the best current option.

I think you could get away with squelching weapons, launchers, and body armor. However, I'd recommend setting an auto-inscription on the top 3 weapons and all DSMs of "!k". This will prevent them from getting squelched, so you could still find e.g. a Scythe of Slicing of Fury or Blue DSM of Speed.

EDIT: fizzix has the same idea, though he didn't think of auto-inscriptions. So nyah.

I would identify ego DSM (if in your version) and the high end melee weapons (BoC, SoS, MoD), - DSM of permanence is, IMO, the best armor in the game, and would let you use Thorin or the Haradrim shield instead of what you have. Ego high end melee weapons (BoC, SoS, MoD), either branded or with 'slay evil', 'Fury', etc., can be better than what you have.

I tend to squelch like you're suggesting though. The other option is to autoinscribe those subset of items with !k, as you only squelch after you pick up.

Rods of curing are a waste of an inventory slot - just use !CCW instead.

you win. I can't believe I didn't think of that. That makes this much less painful.

Dragons, constitution, and rDisenchantment at the moment. I find that I don't miss with it all that much even with the penalty; I switch to Sting sometimes but mostly for see invisible lately...

For disenchantment resistance Belthronding could be better choice. It makes more damage / monster turn than Bard against most monsters (dragons are a bit exception, if you don't have matching slay for Belthronding then Bard beats it).

For Constitution Calris is better than anything you have, but aggravation sucks.

Avavir is also a good weapon, +3 DEX and speed with double-brand means you could use RoCON instead of RoAcid with it: double-brand already affects pretty much anything, acid doesn't increase the affected group much. It actually beats Sting for damage at this point (6*78.2=469,2 vs 8*52.9=423,2.). At this point it makes actually more damage than Calris against everything that is not dragon (6 blows vs 5 blows).

I'd use Belthronding & Avavir & biggest RoCON you can find and Calris as swap against dragons, but your combination is not bad either.
