    diff between Fight stats and Melee stats?

    even after playing this game for years, I don't understand why there are 2 sets of (to hit, to dam) stats - one for "FIGHT", and one for "MELEE".

    Can anyone explain?

    You mean three different?

    Fight is "overall", melee is for melee and shoot is for archery.

      In other words:

      melee = fight + melee-specific bonuses (e.g. to-hit, to-dam on weapon, armor)
      shoot = fight + shoot-specific bonuses (e.g. to-hit, to-dam on launcher)

      I think that's how it works, anyway. Or do rings of Slaying et al also boost archery? Should be easy to check if you have a copy of the game handy, which I don't just now.

        I think it's to-hit affects all, to-dam only melee. From other gear than weapon/ammo that is.

          Judging from the fight/melee/shoot stats for this character, you're right.

          Fight: (+83, +48)
          Melee: (+96, +72)
          Shoot: (+108, +15)

          Weapon: (+13, +24)
          Shooter: (+25, +15)

            So why list fighting at all? What does it tell the player that their melee and shooting stats don't?

              It tells them how much of their fighting ability comes from stats and non-(weapon/launcher) equipment. I suppose there's some value in that.

                But not much. As space on the character screen is at a premium, it has to be a candidate for removal at some point.

                  At first glance, fighting would seem to indicate bare-handed skill, since melee and shoot, weapon and shooter are listed separately. So it's somewhat misleading as well, at least to me.
