    Famous last words ...

"Why the hell won't this Crow die" he asks, beating the Winged Horror.

    What the hell is that!

Spontaneously uttered after allowing the Balrog of Moria to walk right up to me while casually cleaning up what I thought was an empty vault. Technically, not last words as I survived.

      "It breathed for HOW MUCH?"

One-shotted by a frost breath from the Tarrasque, of course. With cold resist. I think that thing has beat me every time I've found it, usually with one or two breaths.

Try without cold resist. Happened to me once when I forgot to swap Nenya back after fighting something which didn't require cold resist.

Undead beholder? Never seen one of them before. Still, if it's too dangerous to tackle I can always use my staff of teleportation to get away...

Not quite last words, and it happened a while ago, but...

In ToME, I had just lured Ancalagon out of a nest and into a small anti-summoning corridor. I had him down a few stars, I think. There was one summon, a GWoB or something like that behind him and out of my LoS.

Me: "Haha, you can't summon anything now! Prepare to die! Hey, wait a minute..."

                  What followed was this:

                  - Ancalagon breathed disintegration on me.
                  - The disintegration breath destroyed the walls around me, creating a big empty space and bringing me into LoS of the Balance Wyrm again.
                  - The Balance Wyrm promptly decided to summon ancient dragons.

I believe I successfully teleported away... Still, it was fairly memorable.

Rock, the Elf Paladin by nullfame:

I just found Rohirrim (in that room) and thought things are looking up now so I'll fight this Dracolich. After all, I'm invincible!

                    > The Seeker Arrow of Wounding (4d4) (+14,+12) {@f3} pierces the Dracolich.
                    > The Dracolich grunts with pain.
                    > You have 8 Seeker Arrows of Wounding (4d4) (+14,+12) {@f3} (w).
                    > The Seeker Arrow of Wounding breaks.
                    > The Dracolich breathes frost.
                    > Low hitpoint warning!
                    > *** LOW HITPOINT WARNING! ***

"Certainly I can survive one more breath." Famous last words.

                      Ah, memorable things:

In NPP which has "teleport toward" (or something like that) monster spell I got an CGV in 1500'-something depth.

"Wow, CGV!", lets see whats inside.
*poof* Vecna appears close to you. Your hair raises. It moves -more-
You teleport it away -more -
*poof* there it is again. Ok now I'm scared -more-
                      You teleport yourself away -more-
You move a step. *poof* and here we go again -more-
You teleport away. In the room with stairs, jee! *poof* and here is also Vecna -more-
You teleport it away, you move a step, *poof*, it moves -more-
You teleport it away, *poof*, it moves -more-
You teleport it away, OK my TO wand starts to go low on charges, *poof* -more-
                      ....

I finally managed to get to the stairs and it didn't manastorm me or summon or anything with about 10-15 free turns it got, and I still had two or three charges left in that wand.

Wait, a monster spell that can be cast when out of LOS which teleports the monster to you? Nasty.

Some monster do that in Sangband like poping into room from outsides.
