Can a Rod of Recall be destroyed by monster attacks?

I found one, and am wondering of it is safe to ditch my pile of recall scrolls.

    Thanks,
    Scott.

I think rods can be destroyed by electric attacks/breaths can't they?

Yes, I have lost many a rod to electric breath.

Rod of Recall has ignore lightning, and I believe that is the only attack that can destroy a rod. Theft could still be an issue, but if your dexterity is high enough you should be fine.

Most of the high-level rods are immune to lightning attacks, but you should check by 'I'nspecting any object you're worried about.

It used to be that all rods were immune to zapping. This was changed at some point in (as far as I can tell) an attempt to make warriors even harder to play, by rendering their bread-and-butter rods destructible.

I believe however that rods, being ordinary inventory items, can be stolen by master thieves. While technically not what you had in mind by "destroyed," it's still something to keep in mind until you have high enough Dex to be immune from pickpocketing.

Master thieves are weaklings though, provided you have any ranged offensive capabilities at all you should be able to kill them easily.

Harowen is more of a problem, but it's easy to avoid him.

I used to carry extra copies of the dungeon books around with me, but I've found that they're not worth the weight at all.

18/150 DEX is proof against any thief, including Harowen. Below that you might get stuff stolen, but you can always retrieve it by killing the thief (who never leaves the level). The only real risk is a trap door or nexus tlev before you get the kill.

Chance to steal (from the 3.1.1 source, which is all I have on this computer):

                  * If you are paralyzed, then you cannot resist being stolen from.
                  * Otherwise, look up a dex-based modifier (from adj_dex_safe in tables.c), some sample values of which are:
                  Code:
                     DEX | Mod
                       3 | 0
                      10 | 6
                      18 | 10
                   18/50 | 25
                  18/100 | 50
                  18/150 | 100
                  * If a 1d100 is less than clvl + this modifier, then stealing fails.

So 18/150 DEX means you can't be stolen from regardless of your level, but a level 50 character with an 18/100 DEX is also theftproof.
