    uhoh... trouble looms

    the RNG must be hunting me now..

    my level 34 human warrior has just found feanor for the first time ever (aren't they one of the rarer artefacts in the game?) but I can't yet put them on as Dal-i-thalion is my only source of Rconf....

    now on a hunt for Rconf as I can't have feanor and not wear them... now I just need to live long enough to try them on.

    incidentally, dropped my medusa on dlvl 43. I've rarely played warriors but they really can put quite a lot of damage down in melee. medusa was a real problem for a recent priest but this guy just mowed her down as some naga's looked on in terror.

      As long as he has methods of detecting confusion damage monsters and methods of bailing out if needed when confused if he does not know which monsters hit to confuse.

      With knowledge and detection, and that much speed avoiding confusion is pretty easy.

        I just found Feanor as well, dropped by an ancient dragon at lvl 47. Makes the next 50 levels or so laughably easy.

          I have no detect monster capabilities atm, which is slightly concerning so I'll proceed slowly (heh) and see how it goes.

            Well, normally if @ is much faster then monster it is not any trouble to kill it regardless of what attacks it has.

              Keep in mind that !CLW can "reduce" confusion in a pinch, and !CCW clears it.

                  fortunately I found thengel soon after and then swapped anarion for celegorm. lost all my sustains but got the pair of rblind and rconf. Dal-i-thalion is now on a shelf at home.

                    erk, this current trip into the dungeon is almost getting a little silly now. on the one trip (about 3 levels) I've now found:

                    not that I should be complaining at all, but I hate having to leave artefacts in the dungeon and now I've no idea what to wear

                      ha, trouble could have easily loomed just then. went down a level and found myself in a corridor with two spaces to either side and then rubble on both sides. so locked in but with room. I rested, zapped my detection rods, looked round the level a little and then went right and realised that one pile of rubble was a sleeping dracolisk... the reason they looked similar is because I'm one of the supposed few who use tiles rather than text.

                      beat him but it coulda been much worse...

                        *sigh* trouble loomed, in the shape of a pack of summoned chaos hounds in a checkerboard pit. I did kill quite a number, but when it was getting too dangerous I teleported out and straight into a pack of nether hounds. You die.

                        my fault, chaos hounds were too much for me and though not too many were in LoS at once, there were enough when they all decided to breathe.

                        ringil, feanor, luthien and belthronding for a base speed of 30 before haste! grrr! probably not see them again for some time..

                        ahh well

                          Dude I know your pain. I could have had +43 speed,I had Feanor and Ringil as well, I felt really good about things and then one bad move ended it all. Ironically I've managed to get almost as far with my very next character. This character has one RoS +12 and and Amulet of Trickery. That is it. And I had to scum around 4900' for awhile before the RoS dropped. So I think its more the player than the gear : )

                            Just to show off my total noobishness - I've been actually trying to play for real with a Gnome Warrior the past couple days and have employed one ultra-valuable lesson to good effect: namely that *destruction* is my best friend, closely followed by ?tLevel and/or ?DeepDescent.

                            Not to jynx my success thus far, but I've gotten out of several close spots thanks to my new cavalier attitude towards quickly destructing any fight that's not going my way. ?Teleport is an absolute last resort - it's just too dangerous.

                              no, I totally agree that it's all the player and not the kit.. but what nice kit!

                              still, that's the nature of the game. you lose a level 41 warrior and you just roll up someone new...

                              yes, you're quite right, I really should look at using destruction more, though I think I was saving them for morgoth. not that it's done me much good.

                              Also, due to the long recharge cycles on luthien, I was spending a lot of time on levels. leaving a lot of time for new monsters to spawn.

                              ahh well, lessons hopefully learnt..
