Omigodomigodomigod how do I take a screenshot?

    Morning all,

There I am trucking away with Leisa IV down at around 1900' and I read ?map on a new level, and I see what must be a GV. I hardly ever see these because I usually die before 2000', I think it's months since I've seen one. I've never seen this one before: it's like a compact version of the GCV, but each cell is only one square, rather than four or five. And the cells are aligned rather than diagonal-pattern. Anyway, there are about 150 items including all three of the Phial, Star and Arkenstone! I haven't detected monsters yet - can anyone tell me how to record the screen for posterity? I think I'm reasonably well-equipped to take it on, but we'll see.

This is Linux btw, under GNOME, if that makes any difference. The dump is on the comp88 ladder.

That *IS* GCV. There are two types, one with spiral pathway and one with zig-zag pathway. Both have single square cells surrounded by permanent rock except in that pathway-direction where it is granite. In dead center there is IIRC five square long part with monsters and items, monsters 40 lvl OoD item guaranteed excellent 20 lvl OoD.

Spiral type is better than zig-zag type. Spiral has those 40OoD monster & 20OoD item in every square, zig-zag on every other square (monsters in every square, but not 40lvl OoD).

I have once seen two of those in single level. Took some figuring which items to take with me and which to leave behind.

')' will do it. I get a parse error, but it makes the dump anyway.

Excellent, thank you. Attempting to attach ... hmmkay, this isn't working. Standard html won't upload so I chose "forum embedded html" and every time I click it just re-downloads it to my PC. Some people manage to get screenshots into their posts ... how do they do that?

Anyway, in case anyone can make head or tail of it, as well as the three light sources and a ton of armour and weapons, there are all of Raal's, Mordenkainen's and Resistances, all first finds. (There are three priest books too.)

Unfortunately I lack any TO, so I won't get far. I can probably manage the Nighthawk, but not the Great Storm Wyrm or Ar-Pharazon. Ho hum.

The usual thing is to upload to the screenshots gallery (from the screenshots tab); once you have done that, it will give you the option to associate the screenshot with a character dump (and give you a list to choose from).

If you mean pictures actually in the forum, those are usually just regular screenshots (using the GIMP, or whatever).

Forum embedded works just fine for me. You need to

            a) make a "forum embedded" dump

            b) open it in some text-editor (not wordpad or anything with formatting, the one that you use for coding is fine)

            c) copy & paste its contents in new reply here.

            d) preview your post to check it is OK before submitting

Those files you attached are somehow corrupted. Almost correct, but not quite.

If you're running GNOME there is a program called "Take Screenshot" or something... that might be easier.

I'd prefer HTML text over bitmap any day, however in Windows you just press "print screen" in your keyboard to take screenshot. ALT-printscreen is active window only. Paste in any program you have that can handle bitmaps.

For awhile this vault had a bug -- part of it was inaccessible! Oops. That appears to have been fixed in this version by giving the bottom row its own private entrance.

For reference, 9 means an OOD monster and an OOD guaranteed-good item; 8 means a really-OOD monster and a really-OOD guaranteed-great item. # is diggable wall and X is permanent w all.

@Timo: those "forum embedded" text files contain non-ascii characters - when I try to open them in a text editor I get all sorts of fun and games with unprintable stuff. Not quite sure what's going on here - but I'm halfway through emptying it so back to the game!

It should not contain any such characters. Here is dump from my testing-char:

That's a bug. Try turning of graphics and dumping again. If this fixes is, file it as a bug with dumping. (The dump should always use the default character, not the currently bound symbol.)
