    Graphics in 3.1.1, Linux version

Good afternoon! I have updated my system to Ubuntu Linux 10.04 - Lucid Lynx. The new package repository now containes Angband 3.1.1. And I don't manage to start my favourite "old tiles" setup. In 3.0.9b (in former Ubuntu) it was without problems (angband -g -mx11 -- -o). I have tried all the commandline options. I have also strace-d the executable, but it even didn't try do open xtra/graf directory. Is any of you succesful in running graphics under Linux with new vanilla?
    Thanks for any idea, Dz.

Same problem here, also in Lucid.

I would mail the package maintainer from the debian package (supposing that the ubuntu guys just copied it again to their repos).
Maybe try the debian version before if graphics is possible there. Will give it a try (if i remember the pws in my vbox installation).

They did, and that would be me. I never play with tiles, so rely on reports like this. Debian now has 3.1.2v2 in testing, which should be in the next Ubuntu upgrade. It's likely that whatever broke tiles in 3.1.1 is still broken though. I will see if I can reproduce the problem and report back here.

Yeah - just updated my little Debian VM to unstable and there is 3.1.2 - where tiles are working. Normally i play only in GCU mode so i never test if the tiles are working too.
Actually i think that the tiles are really confusing. ASCII FTW

Btw. I think you should be able to install the Debian package from unstable/Sid in ubuntu.

Hi, so I have tried to install new version from Debian testing repository. Unfortunately, I still can't make the old tiles work. I would like to use X11, but there is missing the commandline option for selecting the tiles. In previous (3.0.9b), there were suboptions -o (old tiles), -a (Adam's art) and -g (David's art). The whole command string was
            Code:
            angband -g -mx11 -- -o
Now the suboption is gone and since the X11 mode does not support menu, there is no in-game possibility how to change from text to tiles (or from Adam's to old ones). The gtk and sdl version work, but I am not happy with them (black lines between neighbouring tiles create not very nice net, speed is lower than X11 etc.). Did any of you manage to run X11 version of 3.1.2 or 3.1.1? In the worst case I will jump back to 3.0.9b, but I really like id-by-use, quivers and other excellent improvements of the game. Thanks for any idea!
            Dz.

Was this code in main-x11 which was stripped out to make Angband GPL-clean?

I seem to recall some tile-related code whose author couldn't be found.

Yes, the X11 port had tiles removed in order to attain GPL-clean.
Zaiband: end the "I shouldn't have survived that" experience. V3.0.6 fork on Hg.
Zaiband 3.0.10 ETA Mar. 7 2011 (Yes, schedule slipped. Latest testing indicates not enough assert() calls to allow release.)

Ah, splendid. Thanks for the clarification. I'll note that in the next Debian release. So tiles users must use -msdl or -mgtk ...

Or, (I have just successfully tested it) windows angband in wine. Little bit slower, but works quite well (at least graphics, I have problems with wine sound).
