    Misc Game Thoughts

    A few random thoughts/observations.

I just won my first clean game.

It is interesting to note at the end that there are two types of rods, two types of potions, and four types of mushrooms that I never found. I'm especially curious about the mushrooms.

I really like the new mixed blessing items (rings & mushrooms especially), but I never found any at an early enough level that there was any kind of debate in my mind about using any of them.

I am of the opinion that digging is too easy with a regular weapon. Toward the end of the game tunneling through walls is a breeze. I find myself digging from room to room because I am too lazy to walk around a longer path. It would make sense to me that digging would require an actual digging tool. Just my 2 cents.

I'm sure this has come up before, but I wish there was a way to turn off money drops after a while.

And there probably is a way to do this, but I wisht here was a way to squelch certain items while still be allowed to keep the ones you are carrying. Prayer books in particular.

    Grats!

Yep, I am at 3 million game turns and still have yet to find one last mushroom type .. grrr..

Kinda agree on digging. I just force myself not to dig. Ever.
Well, there's that small little exception when the only entrance to a vault is to dig through its walls. :-\

And you can inscribe your items with !d, and squelching will never drop those items.
Reality is what, when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away.
Failure is not an option. It is a privilege, reserved only for those who try.

Inscribe the item with !k and it will not be squelched, while the uninscribed items on the floor or dropped are squelched, assuming you squelch that flavor or quality.

        It's !d :-)

<snip> nevermind, it checks for different stuff in different places. ah well

        yea whichever.

EDIT: Actually, this is interesting. If you inscribe your item with !d, then it will still inscribe the item as squelchable but will not squelch it. It could be useful to tell if you have that item kind to be squelched or not. !k does not mark the item for squelching, but still squelches new items that are allocated. Cool

Thanks for the info on how to keep squelched items in my inventory.

Let me also add too that I saw next to no cursed items in 3.1.2 outside of cursed artifacts.

The !d stops you from dropping it out of your pack automatically, but I would think that if you dropped it on purpose it would disappear, for example when picking up tons of loot and waiting for pseudo. The !k should still be visible when dropped. I haven't tested !d, but if things don't work that way submit a bug report and I'll fix it.

In my recent win, I think I found one cursed stat ring early, and then I found some backbiting arrows and a morgul weapon at 4950' while looking for healing potions. That was it!

I guess it encourages trying on un-ID'd equipment, but it also make Priest spells (OoD, Remove Curse) less useful for sorting out items.

I wouldn't squelch spell books for this reason - What happens if they get burned up in a fire? If they do, you won't be able to pick up any more to replace them. Sure you can go in and unsquelch them, but thats a hassle. And I woulld probobly forget to do that anyway lol.

Well, at the time I started wanting to squelch books I had immunity to fire.

So far as I know, 18/150 DEX is still sufficient to be completely theftproof.

I will file away that factoid. Good to know.

CL also helps, so you don't need that high a dex. IIRC CL 50 at DEX 18/100 or CL 40 at DEX 18/110 will do.
