    Low Brow Question

Okay, my priest with the great Holy Books bought the farm, which isn't so bad I tell myself because now I can download 3.1.2 (was running 3.0.9). This is likely a foolish question for most on here but why are the walls now number signs in this new version? And different types of rock are percents? How do I get it back to how it looked in 3.0.9 where the walls were solid rectangles with different shades for different types?

I see this thread here but I'm not sure it helps me:

Read a bit more... I can follow the fix above but then I wind up with blank walls altogether because I am running Vista. And the earlier fix detailed here:

doesn't seen to work with the latest version...

    Any help would be appreciated!

Heh. The solid-color walls always screwed me up bigtime. As far as I can tell they're a peculiarity of certain display modes; to the extent that there is a standard, it's to use # and % for walls.

I also loved the solid block walls; the # signs give me a headache. Not sure when it changed, but try hitting ~ and going to Terrain knowledge or whatever. Choose the wall and hit v and change it to the block. Then go back to the game and hit = then interact with visuals and save the visuals.

That works for me most of the time, and it should save it to the save file.

While you are at it, change the first "strange rune"--that's summoning--to cyan. It really stands out: the color is a reminder that a failed disarm may mean time hounds.

I also prefer to change permanent walls to something other than dull brown. The new gold color works well for me.

              That's a good idea.
