Questions That Don't Need Their Own Thread

I didn't see a thread for small questions so I figured I'd make one.

Do you guys play with the setting that continually centers you? If not, how do you center yourself when needed?

Is there an auto-explore feature like the one in Dungeon Crawl?

edit: I misspelled "there"! can a mod correct it?
    1. is a matter of interest to me. Autocenter is annoying and i cant really center myself otherwise.
    2. No.

I always play with continuously center; otherwise I can be near the edge of the screen but there's a nasty [offscreen] 4 squares away that I don't see until it's too late.

Actually these days I just play full screen, so the point is moot for me. Seeing the whole map in one screen is muuuuuuch easier.

        In V 3.1.2, Ctrl-L centres the screen.

This is what I do, too. It's a sad day when I want to play a variant that doesn't support a large main screen.

I always play with continuous centering turned on.

            My old variant DaJAngband:
http://sites.google.com/site/dajangbandwebsite/home (defunct and so old it's forked from Angband 3.1.0 -I think- but it's probably playable...)

              List display

              Another question:

The inventory/equipment list in 3.1.2 is displayed at the very right edge of window. I find that quite an effort to move my eyes all the way right every time (especially on a widescreen monitor of 19" and up when playing in maximized window).

How do you guys feel about it?
Is there a way to have the inventory/equip list displayed left again? (approx on the same position as the visible monster list is displayed)

I don't really understand your issue. Could you post or link to a screenshot?

                  Monster list displays as expected.
Inventory list displays on the right (annoying)

                  It's Angband 3.1.2 on Windows XP SP3

Personally I like it on the right and thought it was an intentional improvement.

well, I suppose I get used to it, sooner or later ... still, I am afraid I don't like it.

I agree that it is annoying. Moving the list means it doesn't overwrite the @ and nearby monsters, but I'd rather not have to shift my focus from one part of the screen to another.

                        [editing]
The problem is that it is right-justified, but we start reading at the left, and the width is variable, so the eyes cannot learn where to look. If it always started say 70 chars to the left of the right edge of the screen, perhaps I could get used to it.

What does HEAD stand for? In d_m's NetAngband is the choice "Play HEAD"

HEAD is the latest development version of the game. (development versions are those indexed with rXXXX, where XXXX is an increasing number). In HEAD you get the bleeding edge features, the bleeding edge bugfixes, and occasionally the bleeding edge bugs.

Ok, good to know, but is HEAD an acronym of something or is it just kinda metaphoric "head" for the heading version?
