    Dungeon LV vs Monster Level

Hi all. I’m playing a level 13 Half-Orc Warrior in Angband. I noticed something and I am confused. If I go to dungeon LV 13, does that mean the monsters there will also be level 13? How closely do dungeon LVs correspond to monster levels?

Each type of monster has a native depth associated with it. Generally, a monster with a depth of x can appear at level x of the dungeon or deeper. When you recall the details about a monster with a depth of x it will say "is normally found at depths of y feet (level x)" where y is 50 times x.

There is a chance that a monster can appear at shallower levels than its native depth. Certain types of rooms can contain such "out of depth" monsters and, even without those rooms, around 4% of monster will be "out of depth".

The town and its residents are exceptions to those rules. The town's residents have a native depth of zero and will not appear in the dungeon. "Out of depth" monsters do not appear in the town unless you do something there like use a staff of summoning or a rod of polymorph.
