    Self-targeted offensive spells

I know this has been discussed a million times before, but it has always seemed weird to me that you can hit yourself with an area of effect spell and do no damage, yet wipe out all the monsters next to you...

But think about it... is it just me or is casting "stinking cloud" at yourself a rather cheesy (no pun intended) way to deal with poltergeists and rats??? C'mon, you're supposed to be a HERO, not WARIO! :P

Though I suppose if you cast too powerful a spell, you'd end up a suicide bomber
You read the scroll labeled NOBIMUS UPSCOTI...
You are surrounded by a stasis field!
The tengu tries to teleport, but fails!

Well, you can actually get blinded when you use destructive magic to kill those around you... Don't remember if it was Destruction or *Destruction*, I only ran into one of those scrolls once and just kept it in my home for later use...

I don't think ball spells really need a nerf, though, and "you can hit yourself with your own spells" is a pretty significant nerf. Consider the disparity between player health and monster health: enemies frequently have much more hitpoints than the player does, which means player attack spells must be scaled up to deal sufficient damage, which means that hitting yourself with your own spell is liable to be very painful indeed.
