    Priestly questions

Hi! So I'm running another kobold priest, in early 2000's now, and I got couple of small questions to ask more experienced players.

Q#1: Got my filthy hands on Godly Insights, so I would like to ditch book 1 (Beginners Handbook). Only spell I use from it is Call Light. What do you folks use instead of Call Light from book1 in late game? Do you just not bother lighting up rooms?

PS I love taking out whole orc pit in single turn with Dispel Evil. Muahaha

Q#2: Is it reasonable to expect Amulet of Wisdom +5 or better?

      Hey,
      1) The Phial of Galadriel activates for Call Light or you can carry around a rod of Illumination, if you do not want to carry the first book.
      2) I think, that +5 is the best enchantment for an Amulet of Wisdom, but they exist.

And yes, Dispel Evil is awesome.

        1) You sure about the Phial? Mine certainly does not activate at all.
        2) Okay, that's hope.

+6 is possible, but unlikely prior to dl ~75.
          +5 should eventually turn up.

And the phial does activate for light. (Check artifacts.txt to make sure.)

The ultimate replacement for PB1 Call Light is Godly Insight's Clairvoyance at level 35 (maps, lights, and detects objects over the entire level).

I believe Phial has to be formally identified prior to activating (at least that's how it was prior to the "identify by testing" version of the game. Of course, if you have Godly Insights and you've made it to level 20, you have the identify prayer. I usually drop PB1 when I find Godly Insights and have the Phial. (Of course, in my current game, I found Wrath of God at 600' but am playing a mage. Grrrrr!!!!!!)

Well I think we have a bug here. And my current game is screwed.

                "You have nothing to identify."

And when inspecting Phial, it just says Radius 3 light and no mention of activation. This is 3.1.1.1626

Late game replacement for Call Light would be Clairvoiance. Until then use Phial or rods of illumination.

AoWIS go up to +6, and are not rare, so eventually you'll find it.

This has me intrigued... does this continue past normal orc pits with priests?

It's been ages since I played a Vanilla priest, but IIRC Dispel Evil simply does some fixed multiple of your level in damage to all evil monsters you can see. If I recall correctly its maximum damage is thus at level 50 and is something like 100-150 points (i.e. significantly worse than what you could do in melee to a single target). The great benefit it gives is massive parallelization, which is only really useful in situations where you're willing to stand in LOS of a large number of enemies, which stops happening pretty quickly once you start encountering heavy breathers. Still handy for e.g. wiping out a group of novice rogues that are disturbing your slumber.
