    Can't recharge Rods

The code for recharging used to have a way to recharge rods.
(If all were discharged, there was a chance one would break.
If one or more was charged, there was a chance that all would be discharged.)

I used to use it occasionally vs M for Rods of Teleport Other and Rods of Healing, after all charges were spent.

Is there a reason it's gone?

    Food too rare deep.

I'm not playing Ironman now, but I noticed that there is essentially no food deep. (Not mushrooms either.)

Mushrooms all have "rarity 0" (very common) and "commonness" 10 (quite rare)
Elven waybread is supposed to show up deep, but does not show up often, despite commonness 90.

Basically, if you go below dl 50 in ironman as a warrior, you better plan on carrying all your food.

    EDIT:
Same holds for *Remove Curse* and the other "big" scrolls (Banishment, Mass Banishment.)

    Current game has
1 *Remove Curse* foolishly left behind (only source of IM_FIRE is Gothmog, *cursed*)
    1 Banishment
    0 Mass Banishment
    0 Rune
    1 Acquirement
    0 *Acquirement*

I used to see a few of these every game, now they almost never turn up.

I can't address rarity issues, but if you see any enchant to-hit or damage scrolls you can try to use those on gothmog (no matter whether the enchantment is successful or not it also has a chance to break a curse).

Looks like rods are not rechargeable as early as r1 in the rephial SVN repo, so I'm guessing it was before Takkaria's time.

I'm looking at a fairly recent version of the dev source; it doesn't work that way. If you want to remove a (heavy) curse with enchantment, the enchantment has to be successful, after which there's a 25% chance of breaking the curse.

If you made heavy curses too easy to break, I don't know what the point of them would be.

Whoops. It was probably 3.0.5. (There were big changes to recharging code in 3.0.6.)

Pete, the "rarity" field in object.txt is no longer used. Look at commonness and mix and max depths. Perhaps some food items have max depths which they shouldn't have (for ironmen)?

I understand that the rarity field isn't used. I was comparing current behavior to original behavior.

The only foods with maxdepth 100 are Waybread and some (extremely rare) mushrooms.
At depth, this isn't nearly enough for sustenance, even if you kill every mob of low-level monsters you see.

It is the change that rods aren't drained by charge drainers, so equally they are not recharged by rechargers. If you want recharge, use a wand. Basically it is to make the two more distinct from each other.

As far as rare food goes, maybe add a rod of satisfy hunger?

And I think rods being unchargeable is for the better. Wands have some use even at the bottom of Angband due to their differing characteristics, be silly imo to make them more similar. Basically, what powerdiver said.
