Any way to change the level that scroll of word recall takes you to?

I set it to level 4, and when I read it in level 5 I didn't get a prompt to change the level I'm on to the current level. Yes, I am a noob. I've only been playing the game for three or four days.

It used to be that word of recall would take you from town to the deepest dungeon level you'd visited. As a grace to the player, that was modified so that if you recalled from a shallower depth, you could optionally set your recall depth back down to that shallower depth you recalled from. So this is working as intended.
