If you do find this miracle, or think your beloved may become this, then try playing MAngband, where you can *really* dive together. It is Multiplayer Angband. You both log into the game, and dive in the same dungeon.

At the very least, you can use MAngband to get them to at least try it, since they are playing with you And if they play with you at least once, they may be more accepting of your addiction.

I once got my hot not-cousin to play Mangband. Good times.

My wife calls it "the letters game", and for some reason she seems to hate it more than any other game I play. The big debate in our house is whether playing computer games is more or less stupid and time-wasting than watching Big Brother / X-Factor / Strictly Come Dancing / Masterchef / The Apprentice / Yet Another Pointless Bunch of Tw*ts Seeking Their 15 Minutes Of Fame. Jury's still out.

My wife plays WoW with me a lot and we do D&D about once or twice a month, so she has no problem with me playing *bands. I usually play it at work, however, since when I'm home I play WoW. She calls Angband "your ASCII game".

I tried to get her to try it, but she doesn't have the time or patience to learn a new game (especially one as unforgiving as this one). Plus she has a 7-year-old that takes up a lot of our time.

The gf is not a big fan of it, and hasn't ever been tempted to play it. She doesn't give me too hard a time about it as long as she is occupied with something else, but if she wants attention, I'd better close the laptop. Staying up late with it is a no-no too.

I sometimes play on my commute as well.

zikke- not sure why I found your comment funny but I did. Obviously I don't know your situation at all, but I'm picturing your 7yr old being like the typical good dog/bad dog- e.g. when the dog chews up your slippers it's HER dog, but when it learns a trick it's MY dog. It's HER kid when you're on Angband.

We have young twins, so I consider my wife a saint to let me play as much as I do. She knows by now that "I'm just going to play for 20 minutes" means that she'll see me in the morning.

I got my girlfriend to try it and got her hooked as well. It didn't take her more than a month to be as good as I am, and I've been playing for a few years .

Now I'm trying to get her to play Dwarf Fortress but that seems to be harder.

funny- I had slightly better luck with DF. I think it was the more dynamic landscape, plus the cats. My gf was interested until she asked about all the blood and vomit on the grass- that kind of killed it for her...
