Has your issue been reported already?

Of course you used the forum search tool before you even thought about posting about your bug/issue/feature request/change request, to see if anyone's brought it up already.

But the real indicator of whether an issue is on Takkaria's radar is if there's a ticket open for it on the rephial tracker.

This link is a keyword-sorted list of open tickets. It's worth spending a few minutes checking whether your issue is on that list. There's nothing to stop you posting about it even if it is, but it's better that you know. Lots of tickets have links to the forum threads where they were initially raised, so you might not need to start a new thread.

Hint: if it takes too long to read the entire list of open tickets, read this guide to see what keyword(s) your issue should have, then just scan the tickets with relevant keywords. (As of this moment, most tickets are incorrectly tagged, but as soon as 3.1.1 is out I will ensure that all remaining tickets have correct keywords.)

Of course, if development has advanced much since the version you are playing, your issue may have been raised as a ticket and then fixed, meaning that the ticket is closed and won't show up on the list. You could trawl through all the recently-closed tickets if you're comfortable manipulating the query interface, or you could download the latest nightly build or compile the latest development version. If you're not comfortable doing any of those, you should probably just post your issue ...

@Pav: is it worth splitting the Vanilla forum into one for discussion of play styles, requests for advice etc., and one for bug reports, feature requests and so on?

If you're on Windows however, downloading the latest nightly build is trivial:

      1) Go to http://www.rephial.org
      2) Click on "Development" at the top
      3) Click on "Download a nightly build" at the bottom
      4) Click on the "windows" link under the latest build

Or, just go straight to the nightly builds webpage: http://www.rephial.org/nightlies/

Almost all of the excitement of a new version without all of the wait!

well, what do you think? I admit I follow the forums purely via the New posts report... I'm not crazy about having a lot of half-empty sections, so unless a general opinion is that Vanilla section is overcrowded and un-navigable, I'd rather stick with status quo.

I don't know. The last change to the monster list was to use projectable() instead of player_has_los, but I don't know if that fixed the problem. Even if it did, it's not perfect, as there are lots of other situations where projectable != visible and vice versa.

Final resolution of this issue is awaiting Takkaria's ruling on the enormous LOS debate, as whatever he chooses for a LOS algorithm will then Just Work (tm) for the monster list.

Well, given the utility of the New Posts report, the navigability of the Vanilla section is mainly about browsing for threads one is interested in (as opposed to using the search function for a specific term). It seems to me that the V forum is split roughly 50-50 between threads about specific AARs (which should, er, being in the AAR section anyway), which often digress into general playstyle discussions, and threads about V's development (which could be in the Development section I guess, but most people ask them here because they see the Dev section as being specific to coding). I for one would very much like an easy way to separate the AAR/playstyle threads from the V development threads (feature requests, bug reports etc. etc.). Having two separate sections seems like the easiest way, but I'll happily use an alternative.

My feeling is that it's better keeping it all together, but then I keep all my mail in my Inbox, so make of that what you will.

What, even after you've actioned it?

Absolutely. With current disc sizes and searching efficiency, why not?

                  Also, verbing nouns unreadables English.

But verbalizing nominalized adjectives obscures examples.

Indeed. Yet another example of the evils of insufficient caffeine.

But "actioned" is a reverberated nominalization. (Maybe you meant acted (up)on?)

Tidiness. Which of course is just personal preference.

Yeah, verbing weirds language, I know. Nice to see there are still people to whom "actioned" is an abomination.

Done. There are 271 open tickets at the time of writing, and they all have one or more fairly sensible keywords.
