    Gorlim...

    Found an Iron helm, and as usual I put it on to let it ID before I drop it. Bang it's cursed, and that sinking feeling hits and I know it's Gorlim... Of course my fourth artifact is Gorlim. (First is Phial, then Cambeleg, then Detharc, then this)

    I have gaunts of free action on in order to keep cambeleg from getting DE'ed by something. Although with gorlim on, I hit 4 blows at 40 damage a pop, which isn't bad damage at this point (around level 20).

    i'm scared of aggravate though, so any ideas on how to uncurse Gorlim? Or do I pray for a *RC* in the market?

    Your game just turned into a challenge game, what with the -5 wisdom modifier. The chances are, you are going to die. So put on Cambeleg, dive like crazy to *Remove Curse* depth, and hope you find one before you die. 200damage/turn will handle just about all monsters before 2000'. Incidentally, both ?*Remove Curse* and PB6 are native to 2500'...

      S**t, I forgot that I need wisdom. Great this will be fun. But hey, this guy has been lucky so far! I got a potion of contemplation that nuked my dex by a point and I lost some blows (at the time I Was using the weapon of venom and that one point halved my damage by dropping my blows from 2 to 1) but then I found a potion of nimbleness a level deeper which nuked charisma.

      Let's see what I can do... hopefully *RC* drops in shop or lower, this will be interesting, I will realy have to be careful, and kill everything I can hoping for drops. So glad I have see invis and free action though!

      I am scared to death of hounds since I don't have rBase.

        With both gorlim and Cambeleg, you really will want max blows. Use Dethanc, and try to enchant it up to +8 or +9. Hounds are easier to kill with Gorlim than without--thay are always awake anyway, so +32dam/turn will defeat them that much quicker. Anyway, hounds shouldn't be your worry--you can always teleport away. The real trouble comes when individual monsters
        a) can kill you in a single turn and
        b) are always awake.

        Make sure to Detect Evil a lot! (Don't waste mana on anything else.)

          Yeah, as you can see I already bought out the only _tele in town, and all ?tele BM had.

          I'm hoping for detect doors/stairs and I'll be buying out ?mapping for a long time.

            Update on the character, and a dump:

            Found a nice vault, had two artifacts, well one actually but the other dropped off saruman. I tear through monsters like butter, it's actually kinda sad. Hounds are easy enough to avoid, otherwise I'm not too worried. Dropped my ring of free action and picked up a ring of damage +8 from the BM and have a +3 strength from a ring from that vault.

            Oh what's funny? The other artifact in the vault was the leather cap of Thranduil that has the telepathy on it... yeah that would be REAL NICE EXCEPT I CANT WEAR IT.

            Oh well, I'm up to 200/turn on lightning vulnerable, so I'm carving my way through everything right now. I need more magic mapping though. Oh last find of note, I grabbed a +4 amulet of wisdom, which is helping tremendously!

                Has the Remove Curse bug been fixed? Or are you destined to be stuck with Gorlim until YASD occurs?

                  Ya know, i *really* think gorlim gets a worse reputation than it deserves. Gorlim can be an *incredible* swap item, once you get *remove curse*, or you have the spell enchant armor to remove the curse by enchanting it.
                  Now that the BM isn't affected by charisma, they are cheaper than ever to get from there, and not too uncommon. And I usually buy one once i get the extra cash, just in case i need it.

                    Yes the *Remove Curse* bug is fixed. However, it's no longer possible to disenchant it, then remove the curse with ?+to_ac.

                        Also found Thengel. I'm at 2000' or 1950' now, when I get home from work ill hit 2500' and pray I get a *RC* before I get hosed. On the upside most things die when I look at them funny still, including 'D's and some uniques like Beorn... although I used a !speed and !healing on him. Oh well he's dead and I cleared that vault nicely. :-)

                            32 levels with Gorlim was a pretty good run. Congrats!

                            Note: that death had little to do with Gorlim, and more to do with playing footsy with a Q (or sorceress?).
                            Without Gorlim, you could have been casting double resist fire&cold buffs all the time; in that case, only a lightning breath could have done you in. But the same thing would have happened if the monster had summoned a Dracoli(sk)/(ch), a GCD, or most any Wyrm.
