    Problems/questions with id-by-use and pseudo-id with b1454

    Hi,

I've just had some fun trying ironman and after dying and looking at my dump a few questions came to my mind:

    - I had an Onyx Ring that, after being worn, quickly revealed it added a +5% bonus to searching but never changed into a Ring of Searching. I thought that maybe there was a kind of ring I'm not familiar with that could give a bonus to searching but also had other powers I still had to find. However, in the dump it show that it really was a =oSearching. Since I knew all the bonus of the ring, it should have become fully identified, right?
If so, it's a bug and I haven't found a ticket about that on trac (but my "searching on trac" skill is not high without a ring ).

    - I had a stack of Iron Shots that were never identified by use although I fired a few dozens of them. However another stack was identified very quickly. Is it just bad luck?

    - As a mage, weapons and armors staid {Unknown} even if I kept them in my inventory (not equipped) for a long time. I though weak pseudo-id was gone and every class had strong pseudo-id. Am I wrong?

    (1) WIP, learning doesn't fully work yet

    (2) good luck, not bad, to learn anything There is a hack to let you learn for no reason on occasion.

    (3) sounds buggy

      (1) & (2) - Ok, I didn't know about that.
      (3) - I haven't tested this a lot because of an untimely death More testing would be required to be sure.

      Thanks for your reply.

        Another bug:
        I'm wielding
        b) A Long Bow (x3) (+17,+19) (+2) {special}
It was dropped by a Kobold archer--good thing he didn't shoot me with it!

When I look at my arrows, I see:
Average damage/round Dragons 37.8 vs. Dragons, and 12.6 vs. others.

EDIT: Just to be clear, there are two nits here--one in the damage, and the other in the fact that the brand shows for the arrows, but I haven't shot any dragons yet.

A ring of light also increases your searching, but you should have id'ed the increased radius of light immediately.

            Yep, that seems quite incoherent.
I suppose your arrows don't have "slay dragon" on them, by the way (I don't know if it's possible, I'm not very familiar with ammo)
The average damage error might be due to id-by-use not correcting the description once you know the bonus of the weapon, maybe?
The slay bonus might not be related to id-by-use at all. Maybe it is always shown even if the weapon is completely unknown?

Thanks, I thought there was at least another kind of ring that would give searching bonus but couldn't remember any.

@Nolendil -- the problem is in the object info for arrows when you have a partially IDed bow. (The bow, of course, is Bard. Bard gives Slay Dragon to all arrows , and a couple shots will show you the damage and to_hit pluses.)

So the description of the arrows should be:

Average damage/round: 108.5 damage vs. all monsters.

Woohoo, another bug. \ (keymap escape character) doesn't work in the stores. (Using the roguelike keyset, I tried to do \k! to destroy squelched stuff while buying out the Magic Shop, rather than ^D! which is harder to type.)

EDIT: Destroy squelched doesn't even work in the shops using ^D!... Bummer.
