r1443 'magical' items auto identify all the way.

A short while ago if a dagger in your backpack was 'magical' it would just get a {magical} inscription after some time. You had to actually use it to get it identified fully. Now weapons and armour are fully identifying bonuses (/penalties) without having to use them. Is this intended or a it is a bug?

While I don't really know a thing about these nightlies, if I've got my term right, a question out of curiosity. Does something similar happen with {excellent} weapons?

It sounds like a bug. I believe you should see plusses on wield, but was unable to convert Takkaria to my viewpoint.

The last official word I received was that you have to use them, i.e. a successful hit to learn attack plusses. However, the current changes are mostly being done by someone closer to Takkaria than I am, so it is possible that there has been a change in philosophy I haven't heard of.

I've observed this behaviour for a long time before r1443. Before r1400 even, IIRC. I thought Takkaria had come round to Eddie's view and made the plusses appear as soon as the thing pseudos as magical.

Can't remember how far back magical items have id'd pluses/minuses in the back pack, but it's definately been happening for a lot longer than r1443.

I find it's easier and quicker to wield the weapon in question, smack something once and thus id the pluses/minuses on the weapon and move on.

I started using the nightliest at r1436 and it auto-IDed {good} items then, but it doesn't ID {excellent}. I wasn't sure if this was intended, but I assumed so.
