    feature request: merge !restoreStat

    It would be a radical move, but merging !restoreStat into one general use potion would solve many problems: an element of TMJ, the main reason to townscum, a major source of irritation in the game.

    The major downside would be that players would stock up on them and carry them around in the dungeon, taking up only one inventory slot. This could be circumvented by making them expensive.

    Other objections?
    Bands, / Those funny little plans / That never work quite right.

    TinyAngband got around some townscumming issues by adding shops that provided services, i.e. there was a temple that could restore stats or life levels for a fee. There were other shops that could enchant weapons, ammo, or identify items, etc. These services could be too radical or unbalancing for vanilla (especially ammo enchanting services).

    Maybe restore stat potions need to be guaranteed in the scroll/potion shop? Or, simply making restore stat potions available in the Temple shop as well could make things easier.

      Make them at least 6x as rare and 6x as expensive and then I'm neutral on the subject, otherwise forget it.

      Maybe a potion of lesser (partial/any stat) restoration is in order?

        How about if it only restores one stat that's depleted at random?

            The sustain rings have already been combined into a smaller number. How about a parallel combination for the !stat restore:

            !restore body (str, dex, con)
            !restore soul (int, wis, ??)
            !restore charisma

            Seems like a logical solution to me.

              I like this idea. It would be manageable and would follow parallelism.

                I like it too. IMO CHR should be covered by 'soul', and we should lose both !resCHR and =susCHR.

                    I just spent a tedious couple of thousands of turns on level 1 waiting for the shop to restock restore dexterity.
                    It's just bothersome and is no fun at all. It's not so seldom that your DEX get reduced to nothing by a moaning spirit.
                    Their is no alternative for a starting character than to wait for restocking.
                    At least merging the potions in either way would make chances better for them to show up in the shop.

                          If you're not playing for turncount, and you're in the town anyway, it seems silly not to "heal up". There's a trivial if boring way to insure you get whichever !restores you need, so it seems like a trivial and non-boring way should be created too. Or at least less boring (i.e. increasing the likelihood of !restores).

                            Yeah, your probably right. Maybe we can just get rid of stat draining attacks altogether, especially DEX draining (since it's entirely debilitating), or as an alternative, we can just add full stat restoration to every word of recall scroll. That way you wouldn't have to endure the tedious boredom of walking to the temple with your fingers crossed.

                            I mean, it would be silly for you to actually suffer any consequences for letting your DEX get drained to zero, because moaning spirits are totally unfair and unavoidable.

                              Why not doing something like: if !ResDex fails to show up at normal or reduced price, and the char needs it, guarantee it to show up at 2.5x the normal price. That way the character has the option of buying it at a premium, or scumming for one, or living without it.
