Sling of Buckland (heart)

I found a Sling of Buckland today. It made me happier than I can tell just to know that this item exists (not to mention that it is actually quite powerful). It won't be replacing my Long Bow of Bard, of course, but it has still earned a special place in my home. My next character will be a hobbit rogue, with great hopes that I'll find another one of these.

They tend to be somewhat rare as bows of Lothlorien.
Sometimes I am lucky and get both of them, sometimes neither.
For hobbits it would be a suitable item anyway.

Sling of buckland (+2) is one of the strongest shooters in the game IF you can find decent ammo for it. Otherwise it is just painful to have a great weapon and no usable ammo...

Why would you sell a sling of buckland(+2)? Go buy it back ASAP.

It has nothing to do with rogues. Even a CL40 ranger will want to swap in the buckland sling (+2) over a long bow of lothlorien (+2) if you find ego shots vs uniques that resist fire cold and poison that you don't have on arrows. Also, if saving acid arrows for Sauron, could use acid shots on Saruman and The Mouth etc.

OK, I got it back, but I'm doing 245 per arrow with my bow of amras & some branded arrows. Can this sling really beat that out?

It doesn't have to be better to be useful. Use whichever weapon you have the better ammo for. Ego ammo is sufficiently rare in 3.1.1 that having a choice of launchers makes a real difference.

Does anyone know the rarity of slings of buckland and bows of lothlorien (and xbows of the haradrim too, maybe)?

In all of my games i found a grand total of ONE sling of buckland, while bows of lothlorien eventually if i get deep enough are almost a given. The ego xbows are somewhat in between, still really rare though.

Is this intentional, simply a quirk of fate in my case, or should the sling be made a little more common?

The sling is a shallow base object and Buckland is a deep ego. That would make it rarer than e_info indicates.

If you want to find and use slings of buckland, you should be playing Rogue or Brigand in NPP....
