    Mean Maggot?

Hey, I just killed Maggot, and he didn't drop anything. I think that's the first time that's ever happened. Is it intentional? What's the chance?

ya I noticed it also, it happened to me a lot lately! I think it is more frequent in the beta release. It happened two or three times in 309.

Mean? You just killed the poor sod, and you call him mean because he wasn't carrying anything at the time to make it worth your while? You need to do something about that sense of entitlement.

If you want a guaranteed drop from a town unique, try NPP. Lotho Pimple has a guaranteed 2D2 drop. Killing him first really gives you a step up in the game!

As changes to V go, I don't see much point in this one. Personally I'd favour removing Maggot altogether. The fact that he *always* dropped something at least {good} was a compensation for the irritation of his presence. Without that ....

I think he adds a lot to the serious atmosphere of angband (as opposed to nethack for instance) for newish players. The killing of innocents for no particular reason (other than being annoyed by him) is something somewhat unique to angband among roguelikes, especially one who is lamenting the recent loss of his dogs and has the infinite capacity to turn the other cheek.

At least, it made me feel pretty hardcore (in a "I just committed a war crime" sort of way) for a good long while when I first began playing. I don't remember considering the drops.

I always feel bad when I kill Maggot
...but he's so annoying I have to

I also feel bad when he asks me about his dogs and I remember that I just killed them...

So I like the fact that he's here.

Making him moan (much) less often and decreasing his speed would be appreciated though. I would spare him if he didn't keep on running after me shouting the same stuff over and over as soon as he sees me.

I killed Maggot and got a Shield[5] but didn't identify it before losing my save file by accidentally deleting it (I think).

Agreed. I normally kill the poor bugger just so he'll stop getting in my way.
