Monster rebalancing (the new -r flag)

    Hello Maintainers,

I'm just curious about the recent change which only does the
'monster rebalancing code' if you use a new -r flag.

Why is this made an option? So it can be playtested further?
And I'm just curious what the biggest play difference is with regards
to the decision to make/not make this the default.

Was experience gained from monster kills decided to be too low? (or high?)

It's an option chiefly because people might want to play with it; no more, no less.
takkaria whispers something about options. -more-

Yes. The rebalancing code is actually a compilation option (you have to specifically configure the code at compile time) - so it's actually up to whoever compiles the version you're using whether it's used or not. What the -r switch does is allow the user the option of not using the code even if it's been compiled in.

The history is that the official Debian packages of 3.0.x shipped with the rebalancing code compiled in. Without the -r switch, I ended up rebalancing monsters by accident a few times, when I hadn't meant to.

      It all started here.
